Intro into
Peter and John went to the temple for the hour of prayer.
They came upon lame man asking for alms,
Gold or silver I have none, but what I do have I freely give to you.
In The Name of Jesus Christ get up and walk!
Then Peter reached down and pulled the man to his feet.
Instantly the lame man was made completly well!
Peter and John went in to the temple and the man followed them in and praised God open and publicly
ALL THE PEOPLE SAW HIM AND KNEW WHO HE WAS AND WAS AMAZED AT WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND WONDERED HOW IT HAPPENED?
THEN AFTER THE PRAYER TIME IN THE TEMPLE WAS OVER PETER AND JOHN LEFT THE TEMPLE,
The man clung to Peter and John and went with them from the temple.
The people from the temple followed them, they were amazed that Peter and John could do such a work.
Peter preached to them that it was not them but God through the Name of Jesus Christ , that the faith in Jesus had healed this man.
And as they were speaking to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came upon them, greatly annoyed because they were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. And they arrested them and put them in custody until the next day, for it was already evening. But many of those who had heard the word believed, and the number of the men came to about five thousand.
the preist, the captian of the temple, meaning the temple police. along with the sadduces came up while Peter was still speaking.
And they were ill, ticked or plaing words, mad!
because they were teaching the people about Jesus.
They werent teaching them about the water that got turned into wine, or about the fish, or about the feeding of the 5000.
No, they were teaching about the death and resurection from the dead!
They were so upset at this that they arrested Peter and John, the locked them u in jail untill the next day.
Its against Jewish law to try anyone other than civil matter in the evening hours.
It had to be tried in the day time.
So here Peter and John are teaching about Jesus death and Resurection from the dead, they get locked up for it!
But what was the result here?
vs 4 tells us that people got saved from this meassage that Peter gave.
about 2,000 souls! we seen 3000 in acts 2 41 now we are up to 5000.
When you see 2000 peoples eternal destination get changed from hell to eternal life in heaven, the devil is gonna raise his head up every time!
And raise up satan did, Peter and John get locked up.
What must have been going through their minds?
These are the same people that arrested Jesus, these are the same peole that had crucified Jesus.
Would they be next, would this be their last night here on earth?
Would they be beaten, and put on a cross?
I bet the thought entered their minds,
On the next day their rulers and elders and scribes gathered together in Jerusalem, with Annas the high priest and Caiaphas and John and Alexander, and all who were of the high-priestly family. And when they had set them in the midst, they inquired, “By what power or by what name did you do this?”
The same party had assembled together again, what could be the outcome?
what did they want,

This shows that they knew what had happened, they reconised that a healing had taken place.
Now they want to know by what power? or by what name did you do this?
Dueteromny 13 tells us that any healing done in any other name other than Jehovah was to be put to death?
Was this the motive of the Jews here, to kill Peter and John.
I think it was their intentions.
Bacck in chapter 2 we read in verse 4
And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Peter was filled with the Holy Spirit, Here we read that Peter was filled with the Holy Spirit again!
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
the word for wittnes is martys,
It has the meaning to be willing to die for Jesus!
Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders,

Here Peter is filled with the Holy Spirit, again.....
Jesus had taught the disciples this in
When they deliver you over, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say, for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour.
This was the filling of the Spirit again in Peter.
This shows us that the filling of the Spirit is a reoccuring event. It happens over and over again,
We all want it, but do we ask for it over and over again?
and why do we want it, to die for Jesus?
Sounds a bit harsh dosent it?
Think about this...
If one is willing to die for Jesus, they are willing to be mocked, laughed at.
I seen a post on internet,
Christians are willing to die for Jesus but wont even go to church!
This is a true statement.
Peter address the rulers in vs 9,
Rulers of the people and elders,
if we are being examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed,
Peter says, you want to know by what means thisman was healed?
I’ll tell you by what means...
let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by him this man is standing before you well.
It wa sby the name of Jesus Christ.
You know, the one you crucified,

We can see Peter is pouring it on, this is Boldness!!!

Peter didnt say that Jesus was a way to be saved, he is saying Jesus is the only way to be saved!
So many people will say that they have it all worked out with the man upstairs.
God has worked a way for every man and woman, and His name is Jesus Christ!

God gave His only Son, Jesus so that we may have eternal life with Him!
For people to think they can go to heaven by any other means or way does not come from the Bible!

Its through Jesus Christ that one has eternal life, and Eternal Life dosent start when we take our last breath here on earth, it starts the moment we repant and ask for forgivness of our sins.
Oh so many will confess Jesus, and ask for forgivness of their sins but never repent.
Repent means to change direction,
To make a uturn in life, to turn from the way the world lives, to turn from the life that is based off everything the world offers and to turn to Jesus.
This is when eterna life begins.
“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber.
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
Jesus says He came so that we could have life!
Eternal Life!
And to have Life abundantly!
This means here and now.
When one begins living in communion with God, then they are living!
Apart from God they are dead… spirtually dead.
Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.
I have been asked a few times a question,
Where did you go to seminary?
You never left here for school, how do you know all of this.
The answer is simple,
Spending time with Jesus!!
Do you wanna be like Jesus, wanna know him more,
Spend time with Him!
He wants to spend time with you! But he wont push Himself on you.
Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. You will find their is no anxiety, no fear, no worries when spending time with Jesus,
Because nothing else matters when spending time with Him!
How to spend time with Jesus
Reading His Word,
Prayer
Worshipping Him.
The rulers recognized Peter and John had spent time with Jesus,
Can the people around you recognize that you have spent time with Jesus.
Not talking about they know you proclaim to be a Christian,
Not talking about people knowing that you go to church
Do they recognize that you have spent time with Jesus?
What is your life like when you arent spending time with Jesus?
People say all the time,
Get a life!
I say they need to get Jesus!
Then they will have a life!
But seeing the man who was healed standing beside them, they had nothing to say in opposition.
The rulers had asked a question,
by what power , by what name has this happened?
Peter answered them, The name of Jesus Christ, the one you killed and the one that God raised from the dead.
Thats the Name, Jesus
and the proff is right before you, the man is standing!

Ok, we will warn them, dont speak anymore of the name of Jesus.
These are the times we are living in today people.
Faith based orgizations, wont promote the name of Jesus.
They will promote, faith, God, prayer, bible study.
They will promote scripture but no promoting the name of Jesus!
Why, because its offensive to many people.
It brings about oppostion and people desire to avoid any opposition.
So they called them and charged them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.
Really,
The Va state Poilce charged the clergy in the dept several years ago with not speaking or praying in the name of Jesus.
So many times you here the invocatin given at events and many times we dont hear in Jesus name.
People desire to be pleasing in mans sight rather than be pleasing in Gods sight.
but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.
No man or woman will ever deny Jesus Christ if they have been saved by Him.
They cant help but to confess Jesus as the name above all names!
But Peter and John answered them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge, for we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard.”
As you spend time with Jesus, you to wont be able to help but to speak of Him and all that He has done for you and is doing in your life!
And when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way to punish them, because of the people, for all were praising God for what had happened. For the man on whom this sign of healing was performed was more than forty years old.

The rulers threatened Peter and John again, how we dont know but it dosent really matter.
Word from no man can ever over power the words from Jesus!
