Mark 5.21-24
21 Now when Jesus had crossed over again by boat to the other side, a great multitude gathered to Him; and He was by the sea. 22 And behold, one of the rulers of the synagogue came, Jairus by name. And when he saw Him, he fell at His feet 23 and begged Him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter lies at the point of death. Come and lay Your hands on her, that she may be healed, and she will live.” 24 So Jesus went with him, and a great multitude followed Him and thronged Him.
35 While He was still speaking, some came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house who said, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?”
36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not be afraid; only believe.” 37 And He permitted no one to follow Him except Peter, James, and John the brother of James. 38 Then He came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and saw a tumult and those who wept and wailed loudly. 39 When He came in, He said to them, “Why make this commotion and weep? The child is not dead, but sleeping.”
40 And they ridiculed Him. But when He had put them all outside, He took the father and the mother of the child, and those who were with Him, and entered where the child was lying. 41 Then He took the child by the hand, and said to her, “Talitha, cumi,” which is translated, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” 42 Immediately the girl arose and walked, for she was twelve years of age. And they were overcome with great amazement. 43 But He commanded them strictly that no one should know it, and said that something should be given her to eat.
Now a certain woman had a flow of blood for twelve years,

25 Now a certain woman had a flow of blood for twelve years, 26 and had suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse. 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. 28 For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.”
29 Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the affliction. 30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself that power had gone out of Him, turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched My clothes?”
31 But His disciples said to Him, “You see the multitude thronging You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’ ”
32 And He looked around to see her who had done this thing. 33 But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. 34 And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.”

4 Pictures of Hopeless stories - Christ Brings Hope to the Most extreme Hopeless situations.
Disciples in the Storm - Why are you so fearful, How is it that you have no faith?
Demoniac on Shore - Power of darkness, and NOBODY is to far beyond the saving grace of Jesus.
Woman with Disease - A picture of faith in action. She acted upon what she had heard about Jesus.
Leader with a sick child - A lesson on God’s timing & experiencing the POWER of Jesus.
We will dig into the text here in a moment… A man comes to Jesus on behalf of his sick child KNOWING that Jesus had the ability to heal her.
-But-
There is a delay… Jesus seemingly gets distracted and he gets word that its to late.
Hope was gone… It was to late… This is more than difficult circumstances, this was more than the presence of evil… This was more than a debilitating sickness. This was DEATH...
Death used to have the last word, THAT IS until it is introduced to Jesus.
PHRASE THAT JUMPED OUT - Do not fear, Only Believe
Jesus Returns to the place and was greeted with grief and ridicule.
With 1 Sentence… He plunders the grave and robs death of its victim.
The Story of Lazurus - He was late (if only Jesus would have been there)
The Story of the Crucifixion - Agony, Darkness, Mockery
The Hope of the Reserection - Death could not hold Him, Death has no dominion.
The Essence of the Gospel…
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.
God brings dead things to life...
I think that gives us reason to pause, reflect, and enter into worship.
Dont focus on situations, circumstances, problems, worries. Focus on Him and the truth that there is never a hopeless situation.
BEGINNING
BEGINNING
I’ve made a discovery that i think that you can relate to.
It’s easy to have faith, (experience joy) when things are going well.
-but-
What about the other 364 days of the year.
Many make the mistake of buying into the lie that following Jesus will be easy.
Count the cost...
Die to yourself...
Take up your cross....
The christian walk is IMPOSSIBLE without Christ & Yet so many people are trying to walk alone.
God is seeking for your depend on Him.
When difficulties arise, where do you turn?
Take a look at our text. / 5-42
Point a few things to strengthen your walk with Him.
The Approach
The Approach
22 And behold, one of the rulers of the synagogue came, Jairus by name. And when he saw Him, he fell at His feet
Check your ego at the door - God isn't interested in title’s or prestige.
Humble Yourself in His presence.
Humble Yourself in His presence.
5 Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”
God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.
The Ask
The Ask
23 and begged Him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter lies at the point of death. Come and lay Your hands on her, that she may be healed, and she will live.”
Contrast - Other focused vs self focused
35 Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to Him, saying, “Teacher, we want You to do for us whatever we ask.”
Mark 10.35
Desperation & Faith
God Desires for His children to come to him.
Did you know essentially thats what prayer is all about? Confessing your dependance.
Maybe our prayer life is weak and lacking because we have far to much confidence in our self and a very weak view of what God is able to do.
The Hope
The Hope
24 So Jesus went with him, and a great multitude followed Him and thronged Him.
Don’t you love an answered request? Joy overwhelmed Jarius.
Where was his daughter? Sick and near death BUT here comes Jesus. It’s going to be a happy ending… Just as Jarius imagined
- Until -
The Delay
The Delay
Mark 5
30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself that power had gone out of Him, turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched My clothes?”
Can you see Jarius? Joy - anticipation - frustation - worry
The hardest part of truly depending on God is truly trusting His timing.
It’s in the delay that we learn to lean into Him even further. To let the wait FUEL our faith not deplete it.
I often forget that God is at work, not only working out the details but also working in me. Developing perserverance, charecter, hope.
Some of the greatest testimony come from a delay.
The Bad News
The Bad News
Mark 5.35
35 While He was still speaking, some came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house who said, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?”
His greatest fear is now a reality.
Desperation - Jubilation - Brokenness
You gotta know,
The Challenge
The Challenge
36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not be afraid; only believe.”
Jesus not only heard the word, but saw the coutenance & offered hope.
Jarius was no trouble to Jesus, it was for moments like this that Jesus came.
Hope is available in the darkest moments of life.
The Application - Fight the Battle
Do not be afraid; only Believe (vs. 36)
Such a Jesus thing to say...
Jarius had a decision to make - To accept reality or to continue to trust Jesus
Jarius had a decision to make - To accept reality or to continue to trust Jesus
What had brought Him to Jesus? Faith and Hope
Keep believing, Keep trusting - I’m not done yet
We know what Jesus is capable of & we also know there a bigger picture. Sometimes we expereince the miracle and sometimes we just gotta keep believing even when it doesnt make since.
The Application - Expect Opposition
“The Child is not dead, but sleeping.” And they ridiculed Him. (vs. 39-40)
39 When He came in, He said to them, “Why make this commotion and weep? The child is not dead, but sleeping.”
40 And they ridiculed Him. But when He had put them all outside, He took the father and the mother of the child, and those who were with Him, and entered where the child was lying.
The Application - Watch Jesus Work
“Little girl, I say to you, arise.” Immediately the girl arose and walked. (Vs.41-42)
41 Then He took the child by the hand, and said to her, “Talitha, cumi,” which is translated, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” 42 Immediately the girl arose and walked, for she was twelve years of age. And they were overcome with great amazement. 43 But He commanded them strictly that no one should know it, and said that something should be given her to eat.
mark 5.
Every step was a battle - Reality was screaming but Jesus presence was reasssuring.
We have His presence, We have his promise
What do you think this did for Jairus?
