Spiritual Warfare is real
When the servant of the man of God rose early in the morning and went out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was all around the city. And the servant said, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?” He said, “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” Then Elisha prayed and said, “O Lord, please open his eyes that he may see.” So the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. And when the Syrians came down against him, Elisha prayed to the Lord and said, “Please strike this people with blindness.” So he struck them with blindness in accordance with the prayer of Elisha.

Just like during the time of Elisha, we need to understand that the physical world that we see is not the only world that exists. There is another world—the Super-Natural—world. In the super natural—the invisible spirits exist and are constantly at war. If God were to open our eyes to see the spiritual realities that exist beyond the natural eye—we too would see thousands of spiritual beings waring against one another all around us.
Just like during the time of Elisha, we need to understand that the physical world that we see is not the only world that exists. There is another world—the Super-Natural—world. In the super natural—the invisible spirits exist and are constantly at war.
Two Errors We Must Avoid:
Spirituality is Primitive
born of the modern era and was born out of the scientific revolution—at least in popular culture.
Many people in our culture are convinced that religion and spirituality are just a result of our evolved biology. They reason that we have a bent toward religion because of the physical benefits of believing that there is life after death. We evolved psychologically as beings who naturally must believe that there is something or someone that is beyond us. But—they reason—that this just is simply not apart of reality.
Understand, I am not saying that believing in evolution means that you must believe that spirituality does not exist. There are plenty of strong Christian people that firmly believe in the inspiration and inherency of scripture and believe in Theistic Evolution—That is, that God created through some evolutionary means. (Over the course of six “stages” or time periods).
Spirituality is not Prevalent
Others believe the spiritual world is real, but that it just isn't as prevalent as it once was. There are many reasons that people who believe this give, but the main one is that people just do not believe in what they cannot see. People who believe that Spiritual Warfare just is not prevalent may say they believe in spirituality, but they live just like those who believe it is just primitive.
I met a guy at Southern Miss last year that told me he was an “apatheist.” It wasnt that he didnt believe in God, he just didnt care—and chose to never think about it.

From the very beginning of time, Satans and demons have aimed at destroying the things that God has established.
Satan Aims to Deceive You
From the very beginning of time, even before sin had entered into the world. A spiritual war was being waged. Satan and his demons wanted to destroy everything that God had set out to do.
Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made.
He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?”
From the very beginning of time, even before sin had entered into the world. A spiritual war was being waged. Satan and his demons wanted to destroy everything that God had set out to do.
Why?
Satan hates God, he hates Jesus, and he hates us.

Because he cant, he wants to deceive us.
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate.

Paul tells us that the life we are living isn’t primarily physical but spiritual.

The Devil wants us to believe he isn't real.

Ezra included the Angles as being apart of creation in
“You are the Lord, you alone. You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them; and you preserve all of them; and the host of heaven worships you.

Paul taught the same thing in by telling us that Jesus created all things and sustains all things. Visible and invisible…Angels included.

They are limited in their presence.
Just like the rest of God’s creation, they can only be in one place at one time.
In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth,
Then he said to me, “Fear not, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand and humbled yourself before your God, your words have been heard, and I have come because of your words. In both of these passages, it is clear that the a the angels had to leave one place in order to go to another.
Angels cannot be in two places at once. They have a limited Presence
The angel had to leave God’s presence in Heaven in order to go to the city in Galilee. Gabriel was unable to be in two places at once.

There are Legions of angels.
Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels?
A Legion was a section of an army of 3,000-6,000 men.

Why do the Angel’s Praise God?
The Angel’s praise God for the same reason that we should be people who praise God.

They accomplish God’s Work.
And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it.
They influence God’s creation.
Then I saw another angel ascending from the rising of the sun, with the seal of the living God, and he called with a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm earth and sea, saying, “Do not harm the earth or the sea or the trees, until we have sealed the servants of our God on their foreheads.”
They will announce Christ’s return.
For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words.

We are different than angels
We are created in God’s image, angels are not.
Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.
We can reproduce.
When Adam had lived 130 years, he fathered a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth.

We can be redeemed.
For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to chains of gloomy darkness to be kept until the judgment;

Do you not know that we are to judge angels? How much more, then, matters pertaining to this life!

Are they not all ministering spirits sent out to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation?
Lastly, there are two types of Angels…Good ones and Evil ones.
The good ones are the ones we just talked about.
The angel rebuked him...
But the truth of the matter is that human beings have more authority, more value, and are more loved by God than angels...
The second type are the Evil Angles…or what we typically call “Demons”

Demons are fallen angels
When did Demons rebel against God?
The Bible isnt exactly clear…but we do know that it had to happen between God declaring that all of creation was “very good” and the moment when Satan, the the form of a serpent, tempted Eve to disobey God.

“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, “It is only by Beelzebul, the prince of demons, that this man casts out demons.”

Satan was the originator of sin.
You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ.
Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.

Satan and his demons have influence in our world.
Satan is called, “the ruler of this world”

Demons can possess and oppress people
Demons can take the form of “angels of light”
Sin and temptation most of the time doesnt seem bad.
This is why we are called to be “sober minded” and “alert.”
Jesus is greater than Sin, Satan, and Demons
He defeated Satan in the Wilderness
He defeated Demons all throughout the gospels
He defeated Sin on the cross
He defeated Death in the resurrection
