Jn 15:1-11 “the way it works”
Jn 15:1-11 “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away (Or lifts up); and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3 You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.
5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. 8 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.
9 “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. 10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.
11 “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.

He is continually working with us to remove the impurities and worthlessness from our lives and by this means He ensures our joy.
4 3 You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.
You are saved through your faith in Christ; these words are not to save you, they are to make us better Disciples of Christ, bear more fruit, in order to bring glory to God thereby making our joy full.
5 4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.
Abide in Me – a proper & active relationship; a plant won’t grow in a bucket of paint
To Abide in Me is to Not rebel against the truth when it exposes our faults, but to know the way of truth and live by it.
Job 24:1313 “There are those who rebel against the light;
They do not know its ways Nor abide in its paths.
To Abide in Me is to be wise by listening to the rebukes of life, love instruction, and get understanding.
Pr 15:31-3331 The ear that hears the rebukes of life
Will abide among the wise.
He who disdains instruction despises his own soul,
But he who heeds rebuke gets understanding.
The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom,
And before honor is humility.
To Abide in Me is to fear the Lord and live a life of separation
Pr 19:2323 The fear of the Lord leads to life,
And he who has it will abide in satisfaction;
To Abide in Me is to live according to Gods’ Word
Jn 8:3131 …… “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.
To Abide in Me is to do like Jesus did
1 Jn 2:6 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.
The only way to have joy is to be fruitful by maintaining a proper and active relationship with Christ.
6 5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing
I am the vine, you are the branches
When we maintain an active relationship with Christ (do things His way)(allow Him to be Lord of our hearts and lives) we bring much glory to The Father and it is only through Christ that we can do so.
Christ is our source; it’s His ways, His thoughts, His judgments, His thinking, NOT OURS that bring us joy.
7 6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.
Rev. 20:14-15 Those that are not saved will be cast into the lake of fire;
Those that refuse His instruction
Those that refuse to follow His rules
Those that refuse Him Lordship over every part of their lives
8 7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.
Mt 16:223 But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.”
If we maintain an active relationship with Christ (our hearts and desires will be according to His will) (we will be mindful of the things of God rather than the things of man) He answers our prayers;
When our hearts and lives are right before God He grants those request that ensure our joy.
9 8 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.
By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit
The only way to bring honor and glory to the Father is by bearing fruits of righteousness
Heeding the instructions of God makes us His disciples because that is what a disciple does.
disciples.3101 μαθητής [mathetes /math·ay·tes/] n m. From 3129; TDNT 4:415; TDNTA 552; GK 3412; 269 occurrences; AV translates as “disciple” 268 times, and “vr disciple” once. 1 a learner, pupil, disciple.[5]
God the Father is glorified when we maintain an active relationship with Christ and therefore we are Disciples of Christ enjoying the joy of Christ.
The abiding, the lifting up, and the pruning are the disciplines of God the Father teaching us the ways of godliness that provide for our joy.
10 9 “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love
Love is the affectionate concern for the well being of others.
Jesus said that the Father always hears Him
Jesus said the Father had more than 12 legions of angels ready to come to His defense
Jesus said He and the Father are one
Jesus said that the Father loves Him
Jesus said that the Father would not let death have victory over Him
Jesus said that the Father would give Him all that He had promised
The Father loves Christ and Christ loves us therefore know that He is taking care of us through life that your joy may be full.
11 10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.
Deu. 11:26-27 26 “Behold, I set before you today a blessing and a curse: 27 the blessing, if you obey the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you today;
Ro 8:2828 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
Never fear, if we are faithful the Lord is looking out for our best interest and our joy will be full.
12 11 “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.
Jn 8:31-32, 3631 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
These things retain for us the joy and strength of the Lord and that joy is complete;
