Zechariah comes face to face with Gabriel, who tells him of the fulfilment of a two-thousand year old prophecy in which he and his wife have a part to play. Zechariah's distrust leads to nine-months of enforced silence, which is broken by his obedience, leading to the powerful hymn of praise known as the Benedictus. Knowledge follows obedience for Zechariah, and for us.
