Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair says his Christian faith was essential to him during his time in office. But he says he had to keep it under wraps. Blair told BBC TV that talking about faith openly is not as common as it is in the U.S. He says people in Britain are suspicious of religion. "If you talk about it in our political system, people think you're a nutter," Blair said. Blair says that there's nothing wrong with having religious convictions. He also says that his faith helped him make difficult decisions, including sending troops to Iraq. Blair stated that it's difficult to do the job without the strength of his Christian faith.
