Matthew 2:1–12 ESV
1 Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, 2 saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” 3 When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him; 4 and assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. 5 They told him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for so it is written by the prophet: 6 “ ‘And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’ ” 7 Then Herod summoned the wise men secretly and ascertained from them what time the star had appeared. 8 And he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, “Go and search diligently for the child, and when you have found him, bring me word, that I too may come and worship him.” 9 After listening to the king, they went on their way. And behold, the star that they had seen when it rose went before them until it came to rest over the place where the child was. 10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. 11 And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh. 12 And being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed to their own country by another way.
State Key Verse: After listening to the king, they went on their way. And behold, the star that they had seen when it rose went before them until it came to rest over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. (Matthew 2:9-10)

INTRODUCTION
MANY OF US HAVE CELL PHONE THAT PICK UP INVISIBLE SIGNALS OUT OF THE AIR. THERE IS AN ABANDANCE OF SIGNALS AND FREQUENCIES IN THE AIR THAT WE CAN SEE WITH OUR EYES, BUT ALSO GIVE RADIOS, TV wants needed to see visible. Matthews Gospel is taking what generations been talked about to show that it happened for the world to see!
PAUL sees the seed of mature spiritual life ready to sprout ......
Who: The gospel according to Luke is the third account of the gospel of Jesus Christ and was originally the first scroll of a two-volume work (the second scroll being Acts). These volumes are one quarter of the New Testament. The Holy Spirit led Paul’s physician friend, Luke, to author the Third Gospel. Luke is the only gentile author of NT. They are both written to “most excellent Theophilus” or translated “beloved of God.” Someone who is a believer of high social status. The original readers are likely Gentiles as Luke explains Jewish customs.
What: The Gospel of Luke stress the blessing of salvation of God which Jesus Christ brings in response to faith. Salvation brings healing from disease, liberation from demonic control, restoration of life from death, rescue from disaster, and forgiveness of sins.
When: Luke joined Paul on his second missionary journey in Troas and accompanied him to Philippi (Acts 16:10). The Gospel of Luke was written around (AD 58-62)
Where: From Macedonia
Why: Matthew 2 narrates the political threat that Jesus’ birth creates for Herod and the ensuing need for Jesus’ family to flee the country. After time in Egypt, they return, settling in Nazareth. Themes of God’s protection and direction of Jesus’ family through dreams and angelic guidance are prominent, continuing the scene from 1:18–25, where God uses a dream to guide Joseph’s decision making. As he has already done at 1:22–23, Matthew uses fulfillment quotations to connect Jesus’ story to the Old Testament story of Israel (2:5–6, 15, 17–18, 23). In addition, the theme of Gentile inclusion reappears through the characters of the non-Jewish magi, who seek Jesus and worship him as king.
Jeannine K. Brown, Matthew (ed. Mark L. Strauss and John H. Walton; Teach the Text Commentary Series; Grand Rapids, MI: Baker Books, 2015), 22.
OUR TEXT TODAY DESCRIBES JESUS’ ARRIVAL AND THE REALITIES OF HIM BEING THE TRUE KING OF ISRAEL. BUT, WHAT ARE THE REALITIES OF THE BIRTH AND DIVINE PRESENCE OF THE TRUE KING OF ISRAEL?
WE ARE TO...

I. THE UNEXPECTED SEEK TO WORSHIP HIM(vv. 1-2)

A. ________ When God gives you a sign the season has changed it is time to walk in the new season. Sometimes we can be waiting on others but God has already moved.

GOD’s WILL WILL BE DONE AND YOUR WAITING WILL NOT BE IN VAIN.
Isaiah 40:31 ESV
31 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
look at our text, everything seem to be normal day in Bethlehem Judah, but look what happened...
Matthew 2:1–2 ESV
1 Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, 2 saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”
Bethlehem Judah gives birth to the new born King, not Bethlehem Galilee and He is recognized by wise men from the far east and His star from the heights of the heavens.

This Herod is Herod the Great, and he is correctly called “the king” (the title was sometimes accorded the tetrarch, but he was not a king; this Herod was). He was not a Jew, his father being an Idumean and his mother an Arabian, but the Romans made him King of Judea in 40 B.C. He is generally thought to have died in 4 B.C. (there is some dispute about this).5 He was an unscrupulous tyrant, but his achievements were such that he merited the epithet “the Great.” He was a great builder and was responsible for the erection of the temple in Jerusalem, the rebuilding of Samaria (which he called Sebaste in honor of the emperor), and other significant works. And, in the words of Barclay, “He was the only ruler of Palestine who ever succeeded in keeping the peace and in bringing order into disorder.

Who are these wise men (Magi)? The number of them is not given (3 or any other number not given nor where they are from Biblically) But the word Magi is used in the book of Daniel to describe Daniel and other servant to the king.

B. Where is Jesus in your life? He has already come but we can get so caught up in worldly affairs, ambitions and material possessions that we forget the event that happen.

The Star may be a reference from Numbers 24:17.
Numbers 24:17 ESV
17 I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near: a star shall come out of Jacob, and a scepter shall rise out of Israel; it shall crush the forehead of Moab and break down all the sons of Sheth.
Herod the Great was ruthless, he killed his own children to protect his throne, he had nine or more wives and was know for treachery and lust. He was a Edomite, having a natural hatred for the Jews. (HE DIDN’T KNOW GOD’S WORD! The Wise men were hearers and doers of God’s word and new the season has changed. SO THEY CAME TO THE KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS who is worth of worship from the beginning.
Matthew 11:28–30 ESV
28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
John 6:44 ESV
44 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day.

C. IT HAPPENED IN BETHLEHEM JUDAH, NOT JERUSALEM THE CAPITAL CITY! JESUS WAS NOT BORN _________ AMONG THE SMALLEST AND INSIGNIFICANT CLANS OF JUDAH. ARE YOU SO BUSY IN THOUGHT AND ACTIVITY THAT JESUS IS INSIGNIFICANT TO YOUR LIFE? NO TIME TO LOOK UP A SEE WHAT THE LORD IS DOING BEFORE YOU?

At the time of our text the concluding words of Paul 4th and final letter before he comes for his 3rd visit he sets forth challenges for the Corinthian Church grow up. But, how does he challenge them and us to mature in or faith?

To grow...

II. SOME WILL TALK ABOUT WORSHIPPING HIM (vv. 3-8)

A. ______ When our thrones and place of power are challenged by the LORD we worry and are troubled in our decisions. Why, because we don’t really want to bow down; some people didn’t want Jesus like he did. They want his they way they want not according to the Scriptures.

Amen Somebody…? Ouch?
Philippians 2:9–10 ESV
9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
watch this:
Matthew 2:3–8 ESV
3 When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him; 4 and assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. 8 And he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, “Go and search diligently for the child, and when you have found him, bring me word, that I too may come and worship him.”

B. GOD can surprise us by using ungodly people to help us seek Jesus.

Romans 2:14–15 ESV
14 For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. 15 They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them
Micah 5:2 ESV
2 But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days.

C. IT HAPPENED___________ AND THE POLITICIANS NOR DID THE RELIGIOUS LEADERS KNEW WHAT THE LORD HAD DONE. DR. E.K. BAILEY ONCE SAID, “If you are not obeying what God has already revealed to you, there is no way you will know whit he wants to reveal to you” Mark 4:25 - To those who are open to my teaching, more understanding will be given.

At the time of our text the concluding words of Paul 4th and final letter before he comes for his 3rd visit he sets forth challenges for the Corinthian Church grow up. But, how does he challenge them and us to mature in or faith?
To grow...

III. THE JOY AND PROTECTION OF WORSHIPPING HIM (vv. 9-12)

A. _______ The more word (Gospel message)we hear and receive about Christ the more dedicated to God we will become.

John 15:5 ESV
5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
Look; the last interjection.
Matthew 2:9–12 ESV
9 After listening to the king, they went on their way.

B. When we refuse to quit searching faithfully GOD with meet you and your need. God protects the lives of those who put him first.

We are one as remain in Him
Matthew 6:33 ESV
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Isaiah 55:6 ESV
6 “Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near;
Jeremiah 29:13 ESV
13 You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.

C. IT HAPPENED _________? GODLY WISDOM AND UNDERSTANDING ARE PRICELESS!

Recapitulation: We are to look for new expectation, look for evidence of new creation, and look for new dedication to God for new hope to be birthed in us.
Exhortation ; That’ll Preach! Final Application
Matthew informs us that those we may consider to be insignificant, unworthy of any serious consideration, can turn out to be the very agents God chooses to lead us to him.
God is invisible. The Bible says no man has seen God at any time. He’s a spirit. The air is thick with his presence. He is everywhere. The problem is that human eye can’t see Him so He must them make himself visible. The process by which the invisible reality of God comes across in living color is called glory. When we say that God is glorious, we are saying the God has made Himself visible in such a way he can now be seen.:
IT’S HAPPENED
the insignificant became significant - King of Kings
the invisible became visible - Immanuel (God with us)
The glory of God has come down - the Son of God
IT’S HAPPENED - THE SON OF DAVID, THE CHRIST IS BORN IN BETHLEHEM
WORSHIP IS WARFARE
Many believe in Christmas, but don’t believe in the Cross.

Why, because he can do exceeding and abundantly beyond anything I can ask or think!
IT’S HAPPENED!!!
