Why Jesus Came to Humankind
Why Jesus Came to Humankind
16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. 17 “For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.
john3:16-17
We don’t care for the word JUDGE, do we - Here is what another translation says
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
Jesus didn’t come into the world to condemn and simply say it was bad without doing anything about it.
Jesus didn’t come to condemn, but He did come to judge.
Many words have multiple meanings - (e.g. “Charger” can mean - a large plate or a power supply that you plug electronic devices into)
The word “Judge” has become a really BAD word in our society today, but it can really mean 2 different things:
2919. κρίνω krinō, kree´-no; prop. to distinguish, i.e. decide (mentally or judicially); by impl. to try, condemn, punish:—
Judging is actually a VERY good thing, even in our modern context, when it comes to distinguishing and deciding.
When I was in middle school, Mr. Acosta would stand in the dining hall and yell - “Drink your Milik!”
In my normal Modus Operandi, anything worth doing is worth over doing!
We would have milk chugging competitions & races and 1 out of every 3 or 4 races, you would unwittingly, quickly, and thoroughly chug down a full pint of spoiled milk - realize it…then keep going!!!
This was an extreme thing, but How many of you smell your milk before you drink it or use it? You judge between spoiled and good.
In another way of seeing things, an Anthropology class I took in college suggested that the reason that people long ago had many children was because toddlers put everything in their mouth. - instead of stopping them, people would just watch and see if what they ate killed them. That’s how we determined what was good to eat and what was not.
We don’t eat indiscriminately, we judge between poisonous and good
We certainly judge between delicious and disgusting
6 Now these things became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted. 7 And do not become idolaters as were some of them. As it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.” 8 Nor let us commit sexual immorality, as some of them did, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell; 9 nor let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed by serpents; 10 nor complain, as some of them also complained, and were destroyed by the destroyer. 11 Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. 12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.
23 “And they shall teach My people the difference between the holy and the unholy, and cause them to discern between the unclean and the clean.
eze44.23
Jesus DID come to distinguish and decide between things which are good and things which are evil.
Jesus DID come to distinguish and decide between things which are good and things which are evil.
Christian, this means us too!!!
Christianity is not a free pass to sin with complete absolution - it is an empowerment to live the God-designed lifestyle.
Church, we must do better!!!
26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
God knows, because He created humanity, that we are not meant to run on the lifestyle fuel of sin.
We are meant to run on righteousness
I drive a diesel truck and I always look for the GREEN colored pump handle before fueling my vehicle and judge between forms of fuel.
Even premium gasoline would destroy my engine.
Jesus came to judge and distinguish between right and wrong, righteousness and sin
We are meant to run on righteousness & holiness - God’s lifestyle
Even premium sin will destroy our life.
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Jesus came to provide a way to allow us to live a different way and He succeeded!
12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. 13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
Just One Thing:
Let’s not keep Jesus in the manger or in the Bible, let’s allow Him to change us and our entire way of living.
13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. 14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.
1corinthians
Questions:
Questions:
When you are old, what do you think children will ask you to tell stories about?
The Bible defines sin as “missing the mark” or “falling short of God’s standard.” Have you ever struggled specifically with something God, through the Bible, says is sin? What was/is it & how did you respond to that conflict?
According to - Do we have to sin? If we do sin, what is the reason that we do & how/what can you change to live a more holy life?
In your Connect Group prayer time, please share what your biggest struggle & temptation currently is & pray with your group to have God’s grace (strength & ability) to overcome this biggest temptation issue.
