A friend that is closer than a brother (Pro18:24; Jn15:14-15)).
Tonight we are going to look at some wise words regarding friendship.

Now let us see what the Bible has to say about true friends.

Someone once said “A friend is one who comes in when the world has gone out.” or how about a quote from Aristotle:
“What is a friend?
A single soul dwelling in two bodies”
How about the words of Jesus?
Jn14:1
Friendships develop, friendships grow, and yes some friendships die, or in Jesus case are worth dying for.
Friendship’s take effort too, as you can see from the John passage.
Friendship, some are good, and to be honest some can be toxic, so how do we know what friendships are good and what are not truly friendships and are not good for us?
I know let’s see what the Bible has to say about it, with our focus being on “true friends”

True friends love you at all times.
Love is a language of the soul.
It excites, it inspires, it encourages and yes it entertains.
Love is the glue that holds true friendships together, especially in the hard and difficult times.
Friends are not limited by space
Friends are not limited by time
True friends bring the right words at the right time with the right heart and this is the display of love within the friendship.
True friends don’t leave when the going gets tough they look to help, to display their love especially in those times.

In our age of technology we do not need to be in the same place, in the same space with a true friend to be a friend, do we?
In the days of Skype, Facetime, Facebook Messenger, E-mails, Texts we can stay connected

A true friend you can go months without seeing and when you do see them pick up like it were yesterday and like you were never apart.
True Friends Respect You
Respect; does respect mean agree or does it mean respecting you as a person and valuing your thoughts and opinions?
Does respect mean you are honest even when it is hard?

True friends do not disregard your feelings or treat them as if they do not matter.
Respect is one of the true building blocks of a true friendship.
True friends think of the friend more than themselves.

True friends are willing to correct you, help you if you have fallen
True friends are honest regardless of circumstances.
True friends, true words may hurt, but when they come from the right heart for the right reason the wounds are not to hurt but to help.

This is what we have when we have a true friend

We have a good return for our labor, our effort that we put in to develop a friendship that makes someone closer than a brother.
One who will lit us up when we fall
One who will help us keep warm in the cold storms of life
One who, together, we resist the temptations of life
One in which we share the common cord, Christ that is the third cord around the friendship.
