Isaiah 42:6–7 ESV
“I am the Lord; I have called you in righteousness; I will take you by the hand and keep you; I will give you as a covenant for the people, a light for the nations, to open the eyes that are blind, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, from the prison those who sit in darkness.
The dark can be a scary place, with all the shadows, and things hidden and lurking just out of sight… in those circumstances happiness and rest seem out of reach.

I went on vacation this summer to an undisclosed location in the south. Thats all I can say, I was swimming in a remote lake and guess you I met taking a vacation. SANTA! We got to talking about Christmas, and gifts and I asked him a really tough question. “Can you give me the gift that will make a child happy?” He gave me this box and said wait till Christmas. Problem was, I knew none of you would believe that I met him on vacation and that we went swimming together and he gave this gift. I told him that and he gave me his swim trunks to prove it.... wanna see? (Hold up shorts) So you know I met Santa. BTW from here on out I would proceed with caution if you think you see Santa swimming.... cause...

What do you think is in there? What would make you happy?Alright I’ll open it, you can all come look. (open the box) Ok, I need to make sure I get this right....What’s in the box? Nothing!? Do you know why there is nothing in the gift that is supposed to make you happy? Because nothing you find wrapped and under the Christmas tree can ever give you joy. Gifts don’t give joy the Giver does. Think about your family, your mom and dad, your siblings, the friends you have, the fun you have with them and the love you share. Thats were happiness comes from. I can’t give you a present that will make you happy, but I can give you a hug so you know how much I love you.
Isaiah 42:16 ESV
And I will lead the blind in a way that they do not know, in paths that they have not known I will guide them. I will turn the darkness before them into light, the rough places into level ground. These are the things I do, and I do not forsake them.

Alright I’ll open it, you can all come look. (open the box) Ok, I need to make sure I get this right....What’s in the box? Nothing!? Light is made to shine on something.

For the adults we are gonna take it a step further. Joy comes from the Giver not the gift. Don’t forget those precious people: your spouses, and children, your parents and friends… they are gifts too.... the kind that keep giving. But thank God for shining his light on them, that you may be thankful for them as well.

Light is made to shine on something.

The last four weeks we have been talking about light. The Light is coming.... have you ever been camping out in Nevada, with only the sky above you? What happens when you point your flashlight straight up?
Like holding a light up to the sky in the dark. You see nothing. That doesn’t mean its not light, its still shining its nature hasn’t changed. But when that light lands on something.... it shines. And the brilliance of its brightness is realized. Its color is full and vibrant and you feel its warmth.
You see nothing. That doesn’t mean its not light, its still shining its nature hasn’t changed. But when that light lands on something.... it shines. And the brilliance of its brightness is realized. Its color is full and vibrant and you feel its warmth.
So it is with God’s character … like light it is bright, and vibrant, warm..... but its displayed on whom it shines.... and it shines on each of you. So that you wouldn’t have to walk blind in the darkness but you would know the hope of a faithful father, the peace of a powerful protector, the joy of a doting dad, and the love of your creator.

The Light is Coming

Isaiah 42:6–7 ESV
“I am the Lord; I have called you in righteousness; I will take you by the hand and keep you; I will give you as a covenant for the people, a light for the nations, to open the eyes that are blind, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, from the prison those who sit in darkness.
Isaiah 42:6–9 ESV
“I am the Lord; I have called you in righteousness; I will take you by the hand and keep you; I will give you as a covenant for the people, a light for the nations, to open the eyes that are blind, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, from the prison those who sit in darkness. I am the Lord; that is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to carved idols. Behold, the former things have come to pass, and new things I now declare; before they spring forth I tell you of them.”
Isaiah 42:16 ESV
And I will lead the blind in a way that they do not know, in paths that they have not known I will guide them. I will turn the darkness before them into light, the rough places into level ground. These are the things I do, and I do not forsake them.
Isaiah 42:6-7
Isaiah 42:

And the brilliance of its brightness is realized. Its color is full and vibrant and you feel its warmth.
Romans 1:20 ESV
For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.
Romans 1:18 ESV
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.
Romans
Psalm 4:6–8 ESV
There are many who say, “Who will show us some good? Lift up the light of your face upon us, O Lord!” You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and wine abound. In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.
You were made to receive Him.

Our Commendation

Isaiah 60:1–3 ESV
Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the Lord will arise upon you, and his glory will be seen upon you. And nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.
