The night before his execution, Jesus prayed not only for his disciples, but for those who would ultimately be reached by them: us. He prayed that we would be united in our mission--his mission--that we would fulfil the purpose for which he was sent, and now for which we were sent. He instituted a "communitas" a community gathered to achieve a certain purpose, in this case, the great goal of building the kingdom of God.
