God Used His Word to Create the Universe

These are all opening lines to books or stories and authors use their words to create worlds. For much of human history, people with a gift of storytelling would travel around telling stories to princes and paupers alike, recounting stories of heroes and villains, gods and demons. The worlds that they create, however much we love them or how good the graphics or acting is, only come alive temporarily. They only last for the time it takes to make the movie and then the time to watch the movie or read the book. We can get lost in the book and re-watch or reread the movie but it is back to the real world we live in.

We can get lost in the book and rewatch or reread the movie but it is back to the real world we live in.

And that is a good thing because the world that we live in was created by the author of all things and it is as I have just said, real. We can touch the soft grass, we see the vibrant green colors, we feel the rain and sun that makes the grass grow. We hear the frogs that live in the grass as they call to each other.

Life is like every genre of book. Sometimes its an adventure, sometimes it is a comedy, sometimes it is a tragedy. No matter what the style, we know that God has written his story and our story out already.

God used His Word to bring the universe and everything in it into existence.

This is important for us to look at because we are following the Emmaus Road and learning How Jesus is in the Torah or the books of Moses.

Read Verses: 1-5 Main Idea: God used His Word to Create the Universe I. God Created the Universe using a Repeatable Pattern

God is the author of the Bible, he used at least 40 men to write down the words in the 66 books of the Protestant Bible in a way to convey His message and help us understand Him a little. It is traditionally understood that Moses wrote the first five books of the Bible except for the last chapter or two perhaps of Deuteronomy.

If you read enough books by the same author or maybe even just books in the same genre like spy novels, or mysteries, you can usually pick up on patterns. The same goes for TV shows. If you watch certain police shows, you notice patterns like the first person they interview is usually the suspect.

Or in movies, you know that one person will make a monumental mistake in the middle of the movie but by the end of the movie they fix the problem and they live happily ever after. It is the pattern that is comforting to us. It lets us know when to expect certain things. The stories begin and end with certainty.

It is the pattern that is comforting to us. It lets us know when to expect certain things. The stories begin and end with certainty.

We will cover the “it was a good concept” in the next section and we will look at the creation itself first. The universe was created =in what is called ex nihilio which is Latin for out of nothing. There was no scrap pile of planet material or dirt and wood or an old God had laying around his workshop to make something else. No, in the beginning, there was nothing other than the Triune God.

Something like one day is equal to one thousand. Even the church fathers were unsure exactly how to deal with the time questions. The reformers held to a literal six days. I hold to a literal six days. With a whole lot of time in between a lot of the rest of the text. Science has their own timescale, and young-earth creationists have theirs. millions of years or thousands of years.

Application Our Words carry a certain power and responsibility to create or unfortunately in our fallen nature, to destroy. We must take care to use them properly

There is a lot more to the creation debate that we do not have time for today. But here is the most important thing to understand and that is in Then God said, “Let us make man[h] in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

Our tongue and our throat are what forms the words. What we say with our mouth is important to others. The words we choose and how we say them to have meaning, which is not always easy to discern. Emails do not give us body language to pick up on. But in person, that body language can give us a way to our true intentions and meanings.

Sometimes the old adage if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all. The Psalmist tells us something similar in “Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips.”

In Paul encourages the church to get along peacefully by telling them “Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God …”

Paul wants the Ephesians to have healthy repeatable patterns or habits with their words.

Our image is corrupted by the fall because Adam and Eve wanted to be God instead of made in the image of God. But when we accept the Grace of God and are healed through The Blood of Jesus, we become a new creation and we are again being remade in His Image.

TS: When we use our words to communicate with love, even when we do not like someone, or when we are forgiving them for things, they have done we are creating something good. II. God Created the Universe that was Good

Our image is corrupted by the fall because Adam and Eve wanted to be God instead of made in the image of God. But when we accept the Grace of God and are healed through The Blood of Jesus, we become a new creation and we are again being remade in His Image.

Words created the world and it wasn’t not just Ok. it was good. This is part of the repeatable pattern. He creates something and saw that it was good. God is a holy God and he would not make something bad. He Created the universe not to receive glory or accolades from us or because he was bored or lonely, God is not dependent on us or his creation. But he created the universe as theologian Louis Berkhof says, to make His glory Extant and manifest.

What does that mean? It means that it is meant to survive or endure and also as a manifestation or demonstration of HIs power. Everything that happens to this point is Pleasing to Him and The way He wanted it. There was no trial and error or a wastebasket full of bad ideas.

We see in other places in the Bible, like when Saul betrays his command to kill the Amalekites in that happen do not please Him and actually grieve Him.

God is a holy God and he would not make something bad. He Created the universe not to receive glory or accolades from us or because he was bored or lonely, God is not dependent on us or his creation. We love stories that show someone coming back from being bad or evil. Someone who does a complete 180 from living life of depravity to a life of a Believer. One of the themes in Star Wars is recovering the good in Darth Vader. Luke says he senses the good in him. And we like to think that we can pull out the goodness in others and ourselves. We are obsessed with being thought of as good.

This is what is missing from other religions and other worldviews. God has come to make you Holy, because you are his greatest creation and He desires you to be made good. Just as with his creation done as a free act, his salvation is a free gift through grace

His creation, everything he made is for our benefit. His salvation aims at promoting our welfare and perfect happiness. Because God is the only one that can provide us with everything. Not money, not our spouse, not our job, sports, our pets, or anything else that we end up worshiping. Only God is worthy of our praises.

God calls everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.” to Himself.

TS: We were created with a specific purpose and the first reason that we see in Genesis is to be stewards of God’s creation on God’s behalf.

III. God Created the Universe to be Ruled by Man

His creation, everything he made is for our benefit. His salvation aims at promoting our welfare and perfect happiness. Because God is the only one that can provide us with everything. Not money, not our spouse, not our job, sports, our pets, or anything else that we end up worshiping. Only God is worthy of our praises.

At the end of And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” 29 And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. 30 And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so. 31 And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

It was given to us to rule with God. Again, we were created in the image of God in our rational and moral characteristics. We have been given God’s communicable attributes.

TS: We were created with a specific purpose and the first reason that we see in Genesis is to be stewards of God’s creation on God’s behalf.

Goodness, Love, hate, justice, kindness, rationality, mercy, speech, truthfulness and wisdom. God gave us these attributes or these provisions in order to rule over creation but we must do it.

When someone lets you borrow something, hopefully you take better care of it because it is not yours. Since we are talking about books, if I borrow someone’s book, I don’t write in it, or mark it up because it is not mine to do so. I try not to break the spine open if it has ot been done already. Because I respect it.

At the end of And God blessed them. Responsibly, with proper Stewardship. As it says we are responsible for everything that has breath. Because everything we have is, as says, the earth and everything in it, the world and its inhabitants, belong to the Lord.

It was given to us to rule with God. Again, we were created in the image of God in our rational and moral characteristics. We have been given God’s communicable attributes.

Application How well are you stewarding?

Goodness, Love, hate, justice, kindness, rationality, mercy, speech, truthfulness and wisdom. God gave us these attributes or these provisions in order to rule over creation but we must do it

God essentially Gifted the world to Adam. everything we have is a gift and as Peter says. Based on the gift each one has received, use it to serve others, as good managers of the varied grace of God. –

Responsibly, with proper Stewardship. As it says we are responsible for everything that has breath. Because everything we have is, as says, the earth and everything in it, the world and its inhabitants, belong to the Lord.

So the application for this one is how are you using your attributes to help oversee your corner of the earth? How well do you take care of those people and animals in your charge? Your children are not yours to do what you want with. I think if people understood that they are given to you by God, then you would treat them a little different. Maybe there would be no purposeful abortion or need for adoption. Do you take only what you need and leave the rest? Do you use your knowledge and judgment to make wise decisions? Are you using love properly and are using hate properly? Do you hate sin so much that you don't want to be around it? Are you showing mercy to those around you?

When we stand before God we want to hear “His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave! You were faithful over a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Share your master’s joy!’ –

If you are like me, then the answer is probably “sometimes yes” many times “no” So when the times it is yes, it is a good thing because it is the Holy Spirit working in you. Other times when it is no, we can look to God for forgiveness. When we make mistakes or we are talking to people who need God and we are telling them about the glory and the need of Jesus Christ, we can help them understand that even though we falter, God has redeemed you with his grace.

Paul emphasizes this in , In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, 8 which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight 9 making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ 10 as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.

So the application for this one is how are you using your attributes to help oversee your corner of the earth? How well do you take care fo those people and animals in your charge? Do you take only what you need and leave the rest? Do you use your knowledge and judgment to make wise decisions? Are you using love properly and are using hate properly. Do you hate sin so much that you don't want to be around it? Are you showing mercy to those around you?

That is the good news. For the fullness of time. When he was “In the beginning” the plan of everything was written. The plan for the fullness of time was for God the Son to come to earth and redeem

God created the universe. He used His word to make and hold everything together. This is the beginning of the story of our universe. He made it good for his Glory and because he is incapable of making anything less than perfect. We are his greatest creation, made in his image with certain attributes. And He entrusted mankind with ruling over this planet. We have been given a great responsibility in our own lives with What God has given us, despite of the fall caused by our disobedience.

Conclusion:

This disobedience has taken us far from God, but Jesus, God the Son, came to bring us close, to call us back to God for His glory. But we are made new again through Jesus. We do not have to use the old patterns of destruction, but we can use the new patterns of building. Look to build up with your words this week and not teardown. Look at how you care what God has given you, this includes yourself by the way.

God created the universe. He made it good for his Glory and because he is incapable of making anything less than perfect. We are his greatest creation, made in his image with certain attributes. And He entrusted mankind with ruling over this planet. We have been given a great responsibility in our own lives with What God has given us, despite of the fall caused by our disobedience.

If you feel God calling you today to come back it is easy to give over your life under the Lordship of God.

This disobedience has taken us far from God, but Jesus, God the Son, came to bring us close, to call us back to God for His glory. If you feel God calling you today to come back it is easy to give over your life under the Lordship of God.
