7 The women sang as they played, and said, “Saul has slain his thousands, And David his ten thousands.”
6 It happened as they were coming, when David returned from killing the Philistine, that the women came out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet King Saul, with tambourines, with joy and with musical instruments.
7 The women sang as they played, and said, “Saul has slain his thousands, And David his ten thousands.”
8 Then Saul became very angry, for this saying displeased him; and he said, “They have ascribed to David ten thousands, but to me they have ascribed thousands. Now what more can he have but the kingdom?”
9 Saul looked at David with suspicion from that day on.
10 Now it came about on the next day that an evil spirit from God came mightily upon Saul, and he raved in the midst of the house, while David was playing the harp with his hand, as usual; and a spear was in Saul’s hand.
11 Saul hurled the spear for he thought, “I will pin David to the wall.” But David escaped from his presence twice.
12 Now Saul was afraid of David, for the Lord was with him but had departed from Saul.
1 sam 18:6-8
Greater than or nearly as great (probably depending on current situations) of life’s purposes Is determining, why it is we suffer?

Why is there malevolence? What’s the source of it and who is to blame.
Many would wrongly speculate that this is the reason religion and to some degree philosophy (far as much as you can separate religion from the social sciences) were invented to solve this great dilemma.

For that reason, life NEEDS a villain. This is why we relate to comics and fairytale. The evil character is the antitheses of why the central theme or character struggles and because that character (the good guy) is meant for us to relate to. We resent the evil character. Someone always has to ruin things. Not realizing without the him the film or story wouldn’t be found as relatable.
Why do we suffer?
The truth is that suffering, specially pain is one of the few things everyone in the would has deal with.
The degree of that pain or suffering vary a bit, but not matter how rich you are and not matter your background or privilege, we all have face the pain of losing a love one.
Unless of course you don’t have any one you love, and that produce a whole set of other problems.
We all face some it.
The question than becomes, “how do we respond to that suffering?”
For thousands of years philosopher and theologians have tried to answer that question.
Is suffering a result of ones own actions? Thus, if mans actions are good, good things will happen.
Are they a result of more external forces, such as injustice, oppression, or any of the “ism?”
Is it someone? The devil maybe, or dare i say, GOD?
An interesting question the disciples ask Jesus
1 As He passed by, He saw a man blind from birth.
2 And His disciples asked Him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he would be born blind?”

"In the 1930s, the American Dream had become a nightmare, and I think comic books and superheroes in particular provided an escapist form of entertainment that allowed the American public to go into a fantasy world where all the ills of the world were righted by these larger-than-life heroes," says Erin Clancy
Captain America was introduced during World War II.
As a result of Hitler reigh of power Superman quickly rose to fame and glory with the American peoples. He became a symbol of courage, great moral standings, and strength.
Throughout the remainder of World War II, dozens and dozens of superheroes that are still popular today came in to being, most notablyBatman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, and Captain America.

In the sixties at the end of racism and prejudice my favorite, X-Men came forth connecting with the discriminated ones.
But just as important as connecting to the hero was identifying the villain.

The Hero, good. The Villain, Bad.
And good should always defeat evil, AND I’M GOOD!

Someone always has to ruin things and he represents why my life sucks.
Now he represents why my life sucks.
The disciple in essence say, “WHO’S THE BAD GUY?”
Jesus says,
3 Jesus answered, “It was neither that this man sinned, nor his parents; but it was so that the works of God might be displayed in him.
john
Jesus takes away the bad guy.
What do we do with this?
Someone says, “The world is an unfair place, extremely unfair.”
Your response is, “Well, how can you say that? I like the world!”
The world is an unfair place, extremely unfair. Well, how can you say that? Look at my life and all that I’ve been through. I didn’t choose it, I didn’t want it. I hate life, I hate my life. Look at those others, everything come easy to them, life is unfair. Often times people take the misfortune of their own existence as proof the world is unfair or unjust. Then they compare themselves to others and the subject of their comparison become their enemy. I think of David and Saul in 1 Samuel. “The women sang as they played, and said, "Saul has slain his thousands, And David his ten thousands"
They say, “Look at my life and all that I’ve been through. I didn’t choose it, I didn’t want it. I hate life, I hate my life.”
The man didn’t choose to be blind. He was born that way, and Lady Gaga says....
We have to find some to blame.
Then he says, “Look at those others, everything come easy to them, life is unfair.” He compares.
Then he says, “Look at those others, everything come easy to them, life is unfair.” He compares.
Also, they say, “misery loves company.”

He reasons “Life is hard, and then we die. So whats the point?”
He then questions meaning and doubts his own worthless or value and concludes, “there is no value in life so there is no value in me.”
he then feels worthless. there is no value in life so there is no value in me.
The result, he is filled with resentment, “nobody loves me, nobody cares, they put me here, cause they hate me. They made me this way.”
They made me this way.
He risk becoming vengeful and vindictive. “Ill show them. I’ll get them back.
He judges…
In our text we find David and Saul
6 It happened as they were coming, when David returned from killing the Philistine, that the women came out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet King Saul, with tambourines, with joy and with musical instruments.
7 The women sang as they played, and said, “Saul has slain his thousands, And David his ten thousands.”
The people started to notice, the rumor was, the gossip is.
The people started to notice, the rumor was, the gossip is.
“I’m behind,” for whatever reason, reasonable or not.
The truth was the man was really bind. It wasn’t an act.
Maybe it takes you longer to kill. Maybe no one ever taught you how. Maybe you couldn’t afford the proper training or trainer. Maybe your’e just a little slow or lazy, maybe your’e not.
Maybe it takes me long to kill. Maybe no one ever taught me. Maybe I couldn’t afford the proper trainer. Maybe I’m a little slow or lazy. Whatever the case is, David has more than me and I don’t like it. Notice the next verse. 1 Samuel 18:8, “Then Saul became very angry, for this saying displeased him; and he said, "They have ascribed to David ten thousands, but to me they have ascribed thousands. Now what more can he have but the kingdom?” David is the enemy and most be stopped. He’s taking over everything. For many, this point becomes a theology, and we gather together a congregation around this theme. Who has been oppressed? Who has be persecuted? Who’s life sucks? Many people “amplify their own suffering” as the proof the world is unfair. This becomes a truth, the gospel even. Its “my truth,” and I’m justified in believing it because others also feel this way. So then, what happens next? For Saul, tyranny! Resentfulness, and destruction. Let’s burn it all down and destroy the one who is responsible for my misfortune. It’s not only David fault, it’s the fault of the system that allows David to succeed, while I suffer. Not just me, but these others. We must rally the oppressed together and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! “Now it came about on the next day that an evil spirit from God came mightily upon Saul, and he raved in the midst of the house, while David was playing the harp with his hand, as usual; and a spear was in Saul's hand. Saul hurled the spear for he thought, 'I will pin David to the wall.' But David escaped from his presence twice” (1 Samuel 18:10-11). An evil spirit came upon Saul and his heart turned against David to kill him. He threw his spear towards him to kill him. Don’t be like Saul!
Maybe your just a little slow or lazy.
Whatever the case is, how will you respond to suffering?
How will you handle your pain?
What will you do about injustice?
Will you shake yourself or will you play the victim?
Sual concluded that David has more than me and I don’t like it.

12 For we dare not class ourselves or compare ourselves with those who commend themselves. But they, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.
4 But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.
5 For every man shall bear his own burden.
Consider these 3 things.
4 But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.
5 For every man shall bear his own burden.

Maybe life is not that bad Saul, you killed thousands!
Maybe the malevolence and the chaos that surround you is a direct result of my on improper actions.
Maybe you have been dealt a bad hand.. Maybe you have been cheated and lied on and maybe you were abandon and abused.
There is still Good News
You don’t have to stay there.. you don’t have to continue to be the product of your environment.
If you’re a loser you don’t have to keep on losing..
I was on facebook and one pastor posted.
Just had a random guy call the church office and ask, "what does it mean to bear my cross and be a disciple of Christ?"
I’ve been thinking about that a lot. Jesus stand as the ultimate prototype of suffering and injustice.
, we regard Him as the suffering servant. He stand as the truest example of bad things happening to good people.
The innocent lamb of God says burry you curry and follow me.
We have a false impression that if we follow Christ thing will be easy
12 Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.
How should we respond to suffering, malevolence, and pain? By doing what Jesus did. By following Him.
24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.

I respond to the post this way
I respond to the post this way
Carrying you cross is Shouldering your load.. taking responsibility.. embracing life’s difficulties and tragedies, while moving forward, up the mountain.. Following Christ and finding pure joy in the mist of difficulty, negativity, mocking, slander, and even violence. Within the journey you learn to trust the Father, you find God’s strength, encounter His perfect love which removes fear, and you learn to forgive and have mercy on other.
not by turning to jealousy, tyranny, blame, resentfulness, and destruction.
Let’s revisit the world of Jesus concerning the blind man.
1 As He passed by, He saw a man blind from birth.
2 And His disciples asked Him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he would be born blind?”
3 Jesus answered, “It was neither that this man sinned, nor his parents; but it was so that the works of God might be displayed in him.

Maybe you have been oppresses and, victimized. Abused and neglected. Forgotten and abandoned. Beaten and bruised. Placed under the bus and run over. Tossed in the trash and left for dead.
There is still Good News...
NO PAIN!
NO INJUSTICE!
NO
NO MELEVOLENCE!
NO SUFFERING!
IS WORTHY TO COMPARE TO THE GLORY THAT WILL BE REVEALED IN US
Don’t be like Saul!
Wait on the Lord and be productive.
Push back the darkness. Speak up for the mute and the unborn.
do what Isaiah says
17 Learn to do good; Seek justice, Rebuke the oppressor; Defend the fatherless, Plead for the widow.
