What is this passage about?
(Facts)
Jesus calls and prepares the 12 for their mission.
Mat 10:1-
We see this chapter beginning right after the prayer for laborers for the harvest.
Jesus gave authority (power) to the disciples
Someone cannot give what they do not have.
John the Baptist said in that “a man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven.”
Jesus has been given this authority from God, He has stated this many times, and will show that His authority is from God.
What Do We Learn?
What do we learn about God (Father, Son or Holy Spirit)?
God can give authority or power as He sees fit.
Just as the gifts of the spirit, he gives power.
He choses what power to give as He does the gifts of the spirit.
We don’t get to say I want this power (or gift).
He decides.
God can use anyone.
Judas is given the same power as the other 11.
There is no distinction given or made here.
Jesus already had shown us in that many will have prophesied, cast out demons, and done many wonders all in His name.
But only to hear:
:
God can use anyone to further the kingdom, even if they are not part of the inheritance.
