Old and the New

If you are lost - then you are on the other side and are dead in sin
Ephesians 2:3–5 KJV 1900
3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. 4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, 5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

Moses- When does the narrative start? For Moses as a child.

We see the contrast, who you were in the past (and may still be) and who you can be.
Old testament is transition over time
If you are saved, which I believe most of you are, then this is a reminder - of the new “you”
Whole life narratives
It is a slow process of growth
2 Corinthians 5:17–21 KJV 1900
17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. 20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. 21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV 1900
17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
There is still a conversion experience (burning bush)
They both had to deny their up bringing (Moses out of Egypt, the world)
Moses had to leave wealth and security

Paul - The narrative doesn’t start until he is an adult.

Paul
Therefore, if any man be in “Christ” - Stop, ask question
Are you in “Christ”?
What does that mean?
Well there are some really deep promises that you can claim, the most important of which is:
Romans 8:38–39 KJV 1900
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
If you are in Christ, then you will “NEVER,” let me repeat, “NEVER,” be out of Christ - read verse again
Don’t ever let anyone try and talk you out of your salvation. If you are in Christ, then you are in Christ forever!
If you are in Christ, then you are part of a new class of people:
Galatians 3:26–28 KJV 1900
26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
cor 12:13
Corinthians 12:13
1 Corinthians 12:13 KJV 1900
13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
If you are in Christ - you have an instant relationship with all other believers
1 Peter 5:14 KJV 1900
14 Greet ye one another with a kiss of charity. Peace be with you all that are in Christ Jesus. Amen.
Discuss examples of trip to Memphis where there was instant commonality of purpose in witnessing, signing the hymns. This means you can go anywhere in the world and have an instant connection, through the Holy Spirit that only those “in Christ” can have.
2 Corinthians 5:18 KJV 1900
18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
2 Corinthians 5:18–20 KJV 1900
18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. 20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.
2 Corinthians 5:18 KJV 1900
18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
2 Corinthians 5:18–19 KJV 1900
18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
2 Cor 5:15-19
2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV 1900
17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
-19
"All” things “are passed away.”
You were “dead” in your sin and now you are alive!
That means your “death” has passed away and you have taken on new life!
You were heading to hell, and now you heading to heaven.
Hell, for you, has passed away!
You were without the Holy Spirit and now you have the Holy Spirit
You were alone, in your sin, and now you are one with Christ and will never be alone again
Loneliness has passed away!
You were without hope before, and now you have the hope of glory
Hopelessness has pass away!
There is alway a “but,”
Event though all the above are true, there are parts of them which are not yet “fully realized,”
You can still be lonely - even though you are one with Christ
You will still physically die - as it states in Hebrews
Hebrews 9:27 KJV 1900
27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
However, realize, your conscience, once saved is much stronger than before.
Things that didn’t use to bother you are now going to bother you.
That means you have to learn to deal with guilt and regret.
The “old man” is still there. Holding on to you for dear life and constantly nagging at you.
Ephesians 4:24 KJV 1900
24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
New testament is about radical change from where you were (lost) to where God can use you (saved)
To look at things with new eyes
Galatians 5:17–26 KJV 1900
17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. 18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
These are transitional (from one type of life to another type of life)
Gal 5:17-6
It is an instantaneous change in a moment of time
Conversion experience (road to damscus)
Paul a Pharisee (religious, but not in right standing)
Paul had to leave religion and tradition

It is not about the destination - It is about the relationship

The Good news is - if the relationship is right, you are already at the right destination
Paul on the road to Damascus. The relationship wasn’t right when he started. He was heading to persecute Christians and so his destination was wrong as well.
Lost to being saved (Your status with God)
Acts 9:1–9 KJV 1900
1 And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, 2 And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem. 3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: 4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? 5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. 6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. 7 And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man. 8 And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man: but they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus. 9 And he was three days without sight, and neither did eat nor drink.
Paul starts out breathing threatening and slaughter - seeking letters to Damascus so he can persecute the Christians
That is where he was - Lost, heading in the wrong direction
Then he has an encounter with the Lord
1st he gets the right relationship from lost to saved
2nd he asks the right question: what will you have me to do?
3rd Arise and go in the city
God promises, if you encounter Christ, ask the right question: Lord what am I to do, Christ will give you the right destination
