God is good
God is good
Boys and girls, this week’s devotion has been teaching us to praise God. We are to praise God because God is good. Indeed, says
The Lord is good to all;
he has compassion on all he has made.
God is good. And this morning, I want us to think about how has God shown that he is good. The psalmist, the song writer of , wants to show us how good God is, so that we will respond with praise and thanksgiving to God.
Listen to what he says in
The eyes of all look to you,
and you give them their food at the proper time.
You open your hand
and satisfy the desires of every living thing.
The Lord is righteous in all his ways
and faithful in all he does.
God gives us food.
God gives us food.
The psalmist tells us that God is good because God gives us food. Not only does God gives us food. But God gives food to all who look to him. God gives food. He sustains all of his creation by giving us all the food that we need. All the animals that God created are also fed by God. Jesus says in
Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
Boys and girls. God is good. Remember uncle Roy taught in chapel last week, that God is not a bossy, terrible king of king. No he’s not. God is a good king. God did not just create us and leave us to survive. God is good to all of us. He provides the food that he knows that we need. God is good, he gives us food.

Thank you for the food we eat, yum yum!
Thank you for the birds that sing a ling a ling!
Thank you God for everything! Amen!
God satisfies.
God satisfies.
You know boys and guys, sometimes uncle Roy will think about having a particular food. Sometimes it’s roti prata, or sometimes it’s just chicken rice. And you have this favourite stall, that sells your favourite chicken rice. BUt sometimes, you go somewhere else and you eat it, and it just does not taste the same. And you keep thinking and wishing that you were having your favourite. Ok, some of you are wondering, uncle Roy, what are you talking about. But maybe some of your teachers will know. Your ‘craving’ for chicken rice won’t be satisfied until you have your favourite.
Or perhaps some of you have been away from Singapore for a long time. You’ve go to a country where they eat more bread than rice. And all you can think about is coming home to eat your favourite noodles! And finally, the day comes, it may not be your favourite stall, but it’s noodles! It’s tastes like home.
Well boys and guys, the psalmist tells us that God satisfies the desires of every living thing. Enjoying food is such a great gift from our good God isn’t it? It’s really amazing how good food can taste in your mouth.
I mean God could have probably make humans run on petrol. Just like cars. Once you’re empty, you just head down to the canteen, and fill your bottle up with petrol and you’re good to go again. Thank God, that God didn’t make us that way. He gave us senses. God gave us eyes to see the amazing, beautiful food that we eat. God gives us tongues to taste how delightful the drinks that we enjoy. God is so good. He satisfies our desires.
There’s a song that my children learn to sing in nursery whenever they eat in school, that expresses thanks to our good God for food:
Thank you for the world so sweet, dum di dum.
Thank you for the food we eat, yum yum!
Thank you for the birds that sing a ling a ling.
Thank you God for everything! Amen!
God is good, he gives and satisfies us with food. This is because he knows all that we need.
Something that we need most of all…
Something that we need most of all…
And boys and girls, there’s something that God knows that we need most of all. And that is God himself.
You see, God knows that we cannot live without food and water. We need these things to live. And God graciously gives them to all of us.
But boys and girls, there’s something that we need most of all and that is God himself. This is way, more than 2000 years ago, God sent His Son, Jesus. God sent Jesus to die on the cross, so that Man’s sins can be forgiven and all who trust in Jesus can be with God forever.
Some of us are remembering this season of Lent. The 40 days leading up to Good Friday and Easter. Good Friday, reminding us of when Jesus died on the cross. And Easter Sunday, the day he rose again.
The night before Good Friday, Jesus was eating with his disciples and tells us,
While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.”
Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
God gives us something that we need the most, that is for our sins to be forgiven. God gives us Jesus.
Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.
Now Jesus is not saying that he is Gardenia or Sunshine. Jesus is not physical bread. Jesus is the bread that gives live. Jesus is the live that forgives sin and enables all who trust in Jesus to live with God forever. Jesus is the bread that the world needs the most.
36 But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe.
God is faithful
God gives all of us food
Boys and girls. God’s word in psalm 145 tells us to give praise and thanks to God because God is good. God is good because he gives and satisfies with food. Most of all, we praise and thank God because he has given us Jesus, the bread of life. And whoever comes to Jesus go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.
Let us pray. Prayer is talking to God and this is the
God satisfies
“This, then, is how you should pray:
“ ‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’
