Before text messaging. We wrote letters or notes to one another. PostScript messages were common ways of closing out our communication. As kids, we learned to write notes to our girlfriend or boyfriend. We were probably taught to close the letter with P.S. I love you. Professing our affection was probably the reason for writing the note, but not wanting to be too bold we would declare our as if it was almost an afterthought. The difference between an epilogue and a postscript, at the end of a letter is that P.S. is an afterthought whereas an epilogue summarizes the message.
Today we learn that is not an afterthought that Jesus forgot God wanted to share with us. is an epilogue of Jesus’ letter to His churches. is not only a summary of application for the book of revelation but also for the whole Bible.
Today, we will look at 3. Jesus says in light of the truth that has been revealed to you this is how you should prepare for my Sudden and Certain return. Jesus is coming whether you are ready or not.
Let’s read
Revelation 22:6–13 NASB95
And he said to me, “These words are faithful and true”; and the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, sent His angel to show to His bond-servants the things which must soon take place. “And behold, I am coming quickly. Blessed is he who heeds the words of the prophecy of this book.” I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I heard and saw, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed me these things. But he said to me, “Do not do that. I am a fellow servant of yours and of your brethren the prophets and of those who heed the words of this book. Worship God.” And he said to me, “Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near. “Let the one who does wrong, still do wrong; and the one who is filthy, still be filthy; and let the one who is righteous, still practice righteousness; and the one who is holy, still keep himself holy.” “Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done. “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”
Revelation 22:6–12 NASB95

Jesus gives us four applications for preparing for his second coming.
First let’s

Prepare for Jesus’ Return, by Obeying God’s Word

Obey and learn to live a holy life.
Mark 13:33–37 NASB95
“Take heed, keep on the alert; for you do not know when the appointed time will come. It is like a man away on a journey, who upon leaving his house and putting his slaves in charge, assigning to each one his task, also commanded the doorkeeper to stay on the alert. “Therefore, be on the alert—for you do not know when the master of the house is coming, whether in the evening, at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning— in case he should come suddenly and find you asleep. “What I say to you I say to all, ‘Be on the alert!’ ”

Prepare for Jesus’ Return, by Worshiping the God of the Word

Worship the Creator not the created. Worship the Prince of Peace instead of a program or religious practice. The reason we have worship wars is because we are more worried about the kind of music we like than we are care about the object of our songs.
The purpose of music, Bible study, prayer meetings, mission trips and the like are to redirect our worship to God.
Weekly worship attendance redirects of worship to the Creator of heaven an earth.

Prepare for Jesus’ Return, by Proclaiming the God of the Word

Without God’s word, life change is impossible. Proclaim the gospel of grace, because salvation and forgiveness is free. The preaching of the Word has two results repentance or rebellion; the softening of the heart or the harding of the heart.
Preaching draws the line in the sand. God’s word leaves no excuse for ignorance or foolishness.

Prepare for Jesus’ Return, by Serving God According to His Word.

Service requires Holiness, worship, proclamation, and intention.
1 Corinthians 3:9–15 NASB95
For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building. According to the grace of God which was given to me, like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building on it. But each man must be careful how he builds on it. For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each man’s work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man’s work. If any man’s work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward. If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.
1 corinthians 3:9–
2 Corinthians 5:9–10 NASB95
Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.
2 corinthian 5:9–
2 Peter 3:9 NASB95
The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.
2 Peter 3:16 NASB95
as also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.
Psalm 27:14 NASB95
Wait for the Lord; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the Lord.
psalm 27:
Waiting in the Bible means to Hope in the Lord. I don’t know how long, but I am confidence that God will act on HIs promises.
We serve by preaching and proclaiming. The words we proclaim are the words that keep us focused on God’s plans for our life. Our ultimate act of worship is obedience to God’s word.
