No person apart from Christ has been truly righteous
No person apart from Christ has been truly righteous
15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments.
14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.
15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.
John 14
Anyone that has ever been caught for speeding and gets a fine is more likely to be more careful in the future ecpecially if the loss of your driving privliges is threatened. Now our obidiance doesnt come about by our love for the policeman. Even if they are nice and handsome like i used to be when i was in polincing. Its not because we may have to agree with the speed limit. So why do we drive slower? Because we dont want another fine or ticket.
A male driver is pulled over by a cop and the following conversation takes place: Man: What's the problem officer? Cop: You were going at least 75 in a 55 zone. Man: No sir, I was going 65. Wife: Oh Harry. You were going 80. (Man gives his wife a dirty look.) Cop: I'm also going to give you a ticket for your broken tail light. Man: Broken tail light? I didn't know about a broken tail light! Wife: Oh Harry, you've known about that tail light for weeks. (Man gives his wife a dirty look.) Cop: I'm also going to give you a citation for not wearing your seat belt. Man: Oh, I just took it off when you were walking up to the car. Wife: Oh Harry, you never wear your seat belt. Man: Shut your mouth, woman! Cop: Ma'am, does your husband always talk to you this way? Wife: No, only when he's been drinking!
What Jesus said was, If you love me the you will keep my commandments. in other words love produces obedience, or obedience to Christ’s command results in genuine love. It is possible to obey the Jesus words, as we should the speed limit out of fear and not love him genuinely However its impossible to love Him genuinely and not obey him.
Now turn to lets look how David saw God Loved God honored God
Psalm 119
1 Blessed are the undefiled in the way, Who walk in the law of the Lord!
2 Blessed are those who keep His testimonies,
Who seek Him with the whole heart!
3 They also do no iniquity;
They walk in His ways.
4 You have commanded us
To keep Your precepts diligently.
5 Oh, that my ways were directed
To keep Your statutes!
6 Then I would not be ashamed,
When I look into all Your commandments.
What David recognised while its a blessing for one to live in perfect union with God its also a impossibility.
10 As it is written:
“There is none righteous, no, not one;
11 There is none who understands;
There is none who seeks after God.
12 They have all turned aside;
They have together become unprofitable;
There is none who does good, no, not one.”
Romans
This is David the man after Gods own heart, The man that slayed the Giant for cursing the one true God, The man that God has chose to build to Jesus on. Ashamed embarrassed at his sin, his transgressions, he acknowledges his short falls.
But as David saw in inequities he was Feeling guilty for not being truly righteous
1. Guilt over sin can be a good thing
1. Feeling guilty for not being truly righteous Guilt can be a good thing
7 Blessed are the merciful,
For they shall obtain mercy.
4 Blessed are those who mourn,
For they shall be comforted.
Reading this we immediately think it refers to the mourning of a loss of a loved one. While the Spirit may use it to comfort one who is mourning the loss. Matthew specifically was speaking of when one mourns his sin.
When you're zipping down the freeway at 80 in a 55, and you're looking in your rear vision mirror to see if there's a police car behind you, you're probably experiencing guilt. That's the Holy Spirit speaking to you. If you ignore that, then you're ignoring the Holy Spirit. The difference between guilt and what we call condemnation is that the Holy Spirit makes us feel guilty so that we can repent and do something about our sin. But condemnation is a feeling that comes from Satan - it has no purpose but to cripple you in your Christian walk. Condemnation may be just a vague feeling of not measuring up even though you can't seem to work out what it is you've done wrong.
2.The Question how can one Cleanse their way correct their sin overcome the guilt
9 How can a young man cleanse his way?
By taking heed according to Your word.
10 With my whole heart I have sought You;
Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments!
11 Your word I have hidden in my heart,
That I might not sin against You.
12 Blessed are You, O Lord!
Teach me Your statutes.
13 With my lips I have declared
All the judgments of Your mouth.
14 I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies,
As much as in all riches.
