Introduction

Jesus tells them “Do you see these great buildings?
There will not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down.
That would be confusing- so the disciples asked Jesus when they reached the mount of Olives across from temple.
“Tell us when will these things be and what will the sign be when all of these things are about to be accomplish.
He warns them to be aware and see to it that no one leads them astray.

Jesus tells his followers to not be alarmed or anxious.

Verse 9- 10
Jesus warns them to be on guard- (be carful , watch carefully) remember the disciples ask Jesus for sign.
Jesus tells them this will happen.
For they will deliver you over to councils and you will beaten in the Synagogues - persecution will first come from fellow Jews.
Each synagogue had a council, “local councils” they will stand before governors and kings.
Persecution from Jews and Gentiles — Jesus gives them the reason here,” for my name sake” he says.
To bear witness before them.
Verse 10 says and the gospel must first be proclaimed to all nations.
This verse must be matched with the question- signs for all things to be accomplished.
The prophet Isaiah chapter 42:6 There would be a light for the nations, and in Chapter 49:6 God says “my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.”
Jesus said in Acts that the disciples would be his witness in Jerusalem, samaria, Judea and the end of the earth.
The Gospel has always been foreordained to reach all peoples.
Persecution has always caused for the church to grow and strengthened.
Comfort in the church has caused laziness and complacency.
gives instruction for flogging guilty persons found by the local jewish counsels.
They would give 39 because they feared miss counting and violating the word of God.
Paul indicated he received this punishment 5 times, a man who once was part of the persecution of believers now the persecuted.
WHAT CHANGED THIS MAN ?
, and we see disciples of Christ being brought before the counsels, gov and rulers.
They will hear the Gospel.
The most powerful people of the age will hear about The Crucified and risen Lord.
Verse 11
Jesus tells the hearers to not be anxious beforehand in regards to what to say.

This verse is specific for the immediate context and what will soon take place.
This verse should not be used for evangelism.
Verse 12-13
Jesus gives another sign here, persecution will not only come from rulers and authorities.
It will also come from within their own household.
The Prophet Micah in Chapter 7:6 mentions this in regards to families betraying one another
Siblings will turn against each other, parents against children, children against parents.
In the Jewish household it was more than the individual that determined the identity and bore witness to God.

Conclusion
Todays teaching is a reminder that the life as a christian isn’t one of comfort and lack of affliction.
Despite what some teachers today are saying we aren’t to receive our best life now.
I’m not saying we cant enjoy life and be blessed on earth.
We here in America have been blessed beyond measure and we have protections for worship but we should never forget Jesus’s call to discipleship
Remember what Jesus has told us about being persecution
We are to live out our life here weather in comfort of in affliction with Joy and thanks giving
