Baby Dedication:

Malachi 2:15 CSB
15 Didn’t God make them one and give them a portion of spirit? What is the one seeking? Godly offspring. So watch yourselves carefully, so that no one acts treacherously against the wife of his youth.
We understand that God, has blessed us in marriage, with the intention, of producing godly children. We commit to guard our marriage, pursue a knowledge of Scripture, and pass on God’s instructions, promises, and boundaries, to the next generation.
mal 2 15
Deuteronomy 6:4–9 CSB
4 “Listen, Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. 6 These words that I am giving you today are to be in your heart. 7 Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Bind them as a sign on your hand and let them be a symbol on your forehead. 9 Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your city gates.
We understand that as parents, we are the primary disciple-makers in home. We commit, to make God’s word preeminent in our home. We commit, to discuss and teach God’s word, in our home as God commanded.
4-
Ephesians 6:4 CSB
4 Fathers, don’t stir up anger in your children, but bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.
We understand, that the way we discipline and instruct, can either stir up anger in our child, or train them to submit to the Lord. We commit to act with every effort, to bring our children up, in the training and instruction of the Lord.

Introduction:

Jokes:
The mother of a problem child was advised by a psychiatrist, "You are far too upset and worried about your son. I suggest you take tranquilizers regularly."       On her next visit the psychiatrist asked, "Have the tranquilizers calmed you down?"       "Yes," the boy's mother answered.       "And how is your son now?" the psychiatrist asked.       "Who cares?" the mother replied.

One day, a little girl is sitting and watching her mother do the dishes at the kitchen sink.
She suddenly notices that her mother has several strands of white hair sticking out in contrast to her brunette hair. She looks at her mother and inquisitively asks: “Why are some of your hairs white, Mum?”
Her mother replied: “Well, every time that you do something wrong and make me cry or unhappy, one of my hairs turns white.” The little girl thought about this revelation for a while and then asked: “Mumma, how come all of grandma’s hairs are white?”

Today we honor mothers because our culture tells us to, but honoring mothers was God’s idea!

Eve. God honored Eve in the midst of her brokenness by promising that she would be a mother.
In , a mother is instructing her son (probably Bathsheba instructing Solomon). Nowhere in Scripture are we given such a description of a man’s value to a family. But we are given a detailed description of a godly woman’s value…and God commands us to honor her.
First, notice the instruction of a mother to her son:

Look for a woman of faith

Proverbs
Proverbs 31:10 CSB
10 Who can find a wife of noble character? She is far more precious than jewels.
This is the instruction: The most important thing for a young man is to look for a godly wife…and when he finds her honor her!
From God’s perspective, a wife:
who loves the Lord
whose faith shapes her chararacter
whose life is mark by a desire to live within the boundaries God has established for the family
who looses her life for the sake of raising children who love the Lord
who gives her life for the purpose of blessing her family in the Lord
IS ONE OF THE MOST VALUABLE THINGS IN EXISTENCE.
Proverbs 31:29–31 CSB
29 “Many women have done noble deeds, but you surpass them all!” 30 Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord will be praised. 31 Give her the reward of her labor, and let her works praise her at the city gates.

Honor her because she is a blessing to her husband.

Proverbs 31:11–12 CSB
11 The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will not lack anything good. 12 She rewards him with good, not evil, all the days of her life.
A woman of faith is trustworthy.
A woman of faith produces good for her husband and not evil.
There are two kinds of women in the world: Those who fear the Lord and those who exalt themselves. One kind of woman brings blessing and the other brings pain.
Men, honor your godly wives because she is a blessing to you in every way imaginable! God wants you to see her the way he sees her!
Adam and the animals.

Honor her because she looses her life for the provision of the family.

Proverbs 31:13–22 CSB
13 She selects wool and flax and works with willing hands. 14 She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from far away. 15 She rises while it is still night and provides food for her household and portions for her female servants. 16 She evaluates a field and buys it; she plants a vineyard with her earnings. 17 She draws on her strength and reveals that her arms are strong. 18 She sees that her profits are good, and her lamp never goes out at night. 19 She extends her hands to the spinning staff, and her hands hold the spindle. 20 Her hands reach out to the poor, and she extends her hands to the needy. 21 She is not afraid for her household when it snows, for all in her household are doubly clothed. 22 She makes her own bed coverings; her clothing is fine linen and purple.
To say that a woman of faith provides for her family is an understatement.
she provides willingly at a sacrifice.
She provides daily needs for the family
She provides money for the family
She provides security for the family
She provides comfort for the family
She provides blessing for the family and for the community. Don’t miss that she is so successful, she even provides for the poor and needy outside of the family.
She is often the last to go to bed and the first to wake up…working tirelessly for the good of the family.

Honor her because your family is praised because of her.

Proverbs 31:23–25 CSB
23 Her husband is known at the city gates, where he sits among the elders of the land. 24 She makes and sells linen garments; she delivers belts to the merchants. 25 Strength and honor are her clothing, and she can laugh at the time to come.
Proverbs 31:23 CSB
23 Her husband is known at the city gates, where he sits among the elders of the land.
prov 31 23-
Here is the bottom line: When a man has a godly wife,
he is envied
he is praised as one who has integrity
He is respected
A man can have many faults, but a godly wife is such a remarkable possession, his family is praised.
Her husband is praised and her family is protected from ruin.
Don’t miss the power of 31:25. Her family will not be ruined by crisis.

Honor her because she is the main reason your household follows the Lord.

Proverbs 31:26–27 CSB
26 Her mouth speaks wisdom, and loving instruction is on her tongue. 27 She watches over the activities of her household and is never idle.
prov 31 26-27
She is vigilant in her godly instruction, godly counsel, and godly oversight of the activities of her family.
When children are not following her instruction to obey the Lord, she is praying on their behalf.
When children are suffering the consequences of sinful choices, she is loosing sleep with the deepest compassion—working to hep, to fix, to give grace.
Don’t miss that it is the godly wife who is tirelessly watching over the activities of the household.
men tend to chase their own ambition, but it is the mother whose ambition is the complete success of the family.

Honor her because it is unnatural not to.

Proverbs 31:28–31 CSB
28 Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also praises her: 29 “Many women have done noble deeds, but you surpass them all!” 30 Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord will be praised. 31 Give her the reward of her labor, and let her works praise her at the city gates.
Proverbs 31:28–29 CSB
28 Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also praises her: 29 “Many women have done noble deeds, but you surpass them all!”
We are commanded to honor a mother who fears the Lord.
prov 31
The natural order of things is that when a family is blessed with a mother and wife who loves the Lord, they praise her!
Not for her beauty but for her works.
her children cannot help it…they can never repay her for her sacrifice, her love, her work, her commitment, her dedication. They rise up and call her blessed!
Her reward is the the praise of her family.
her husband cannot help it…the greatest demonstration of God’s favor on a man’s life is a godly wife. He praises her!
Look at the kind of praise she receives: You are the best! No other woman on the planet is like you! You surpass them all!
FOUR MOTHERS WHO GOD HONORED:
No mother is perfect, but God demonstrates how He values a woman of faith.
Being a mother is messy, we live in a broken world and we live broken lives. However, God honors a mother’s faith many times by blessing her family throughout many generations.

Honor her because God commands it.

Proverbs 31:30–31 CSB
30 Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord will be praised. 31 Give her the reward of her labor, and let her works praise her at the city gates.
prov 31
many women are praised because of their beauty, but at some point, that kind of praise will end.
The praise of a godly women will not end.
This is a promise: (for younger women) if you live you life pursuing the Lord, you will be praised. Your praise for honoring the Lord will outlast the praise of your beauty.
Don’t buy into the cultural lie that your value is in your beauty. Your value is determined by God. If you are godly. If you fear the Lord. If your character is formed out of a commitment to obey God’s word and pass it on to the next generations, your works…not your looks…will earn you the kind of praise that is eternal.
