“Just a Spoon”
,
Intro:
In the 89 verses here in chapter 7, we read of the gifts that were given to the dedication of the tabernacle.
These gifts were brought, not by demand, but by the princes’ own free will.
Twelve times we read that the same gifts were brought, but out of those twelve gifts one thing struck out to me, “One spoon of ten shekels weight of gold, filled with incense.”
One spoon, listed all by its self.
How could a total of twelve spoons mean so much to the tabernacle?
Why would God list a golden spoon and set it apart from the rest?
Well I started to consider what a spoon does:
1.
A Spoon Stirs: Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;
2. A Spoon Serves: For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.
The thing is these spoons were not just your ordinary spoon.
There was something special about these spoons.
Main:
These spoons were……..
I) Presented Spoons v.12(offered)
They were handed over to the Lord, to be used at His disposal.
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
When someone presents or offers something to someone else they are saying two things:
1.
You can do more with it then I can
2.
You deserve it more than me.
II) Precious Spoons v.14(gold)
No other item dedicated over these twelve days were gold.
Just the spoon.
The other items weighed more but they were just silver.
Verses 85 and 86 give us the total weight value of the items.
Silver was 2400 shekels weight and gold was 120 shekels weight.
If we were to convert a shekel over to our scale of measurement today, one shekel equals .04oz
so 2400 shekels times .04
equals 960oz.
and 120 shekels times .04
equals 48oz.
still the silver outweighs the gold.
But, if we were to take todays value of Gold which was around 1,286 an oz and silver at 16.00 an oz we would get a grand total for the silver of 14,776 and the gold would give a grand total of 61,764.
I am sure that gold was just as valuable in numbers as it is today.
Might not have had a lot in weight, but it had a whole lot in value.
The molds that were used to cast these spoons might not have been that pretty, some old sand stone, but once the mold was taken off what came out was so very precious.
This old flesh ain’t much to look at but what’s on the inside is.
If we just put off the old man, we could become so precious to Lord.
III) Packed Spoons v.14(filled)
Full of incense.
Incense was used in worship and prayer.
We not only need to be Presented and Precious spoons, but we need to be Spoons packed full with worship and prayer which intern ushers in the Holy Ghost.
Have you ever tried walking with a full spoon?
What happens?
It overflows it spills.
If you become a packed spoon in 2018 people will know it because it will overflow and spill on everything around you.
The charger and the bowel had their purpose, but they had to be together to perform the task they were being offered for.
The spoon on the other hand was full of incense.
Conclusion:
In 2018 we need to be spoon of gold filled with incense.
