Name: Lucas Shubert

Backstory Summary

Stoning of Stephen
Jerusalem Church Scattered
Damascus Road // Conversion of Saul
Paul’s Early Ministry
Paul Sent Home to Tarsus
Transitional Statement: In order for a Church to experience healthy growth there needs to be Evangelism, devotion, and discipleship present.

Body

1. Evangelism

a. The primary method of evangelism is verbal.
v. 19 “...speaking the word” - But what ‘word’ were they speaking?
we know from Chapter 8 verse 4 that the Church, which was scattered was preaching the Gospel to all of the people they interacted with.
Acts 8:4 NASB95
Therefore, those who had been scattered went about preaching the word.
Acts
v. 20 - As Christians we must be willing to take the Gospel to people we wouldn’t ordinarily interact with.
Transitional Statement: In order for a Church to experience healthy growth it needs to be God-centered, there must be devotion to God.

2. God-centered

v. 21 “hand of the Lord was with them” // v. 23 Barnabas “witnessed the grace of God” in the church at Antioch … then encouraged them to “remain true to the Lord” // v. 24 “considerable numbers were brought to the Lord”
In order for healthy growth to occur, the Lord must be very present in everything you do.
v. 21 - There is something special about the hand of the Lord being upon someone.

Conclusion

In order for healthy growth to occur, the Lord must be very present in everything you do.
New Life Baptist example
Transitional Statement: In order for a Church to experience healthy growth there needs to be ongoing discipleship.

3. Discipleship

v. 26 “for an entire year they met with the church and taught considerable numbers…”
Paul/Timothy Relationship
a. Discipleship is not an easy task
It is better to train ten people than to do the work of ten people. But it is harder.
D. L. Moody
b. Discipleship provides accountability
Illustration: Chad and I
c. Discipleship is encouraging
v. 25 Saul had went home discouraged (9:29-30), Barnabas brought him back to encourage.
Therefore, if you do not have someone who you are discipling in your life and someone discipling you, I would encourage you to make that commitment today.
