If they could succeed, they would be placed alone in the midst of the earth, would monopolize possessions and preferments, and engross all profits and employments to themselves

Those that set their hearts upon the world will justly be disappointed in their expectations from it.

The expectation was a tenfold yield or more, not a 90 percent loss
God wants to bless us with hundredfold; but what led them instead to a 90% loss?

APPLICATION
Persecution has killed it’s thousands, but prosperity has killed it’s tens of thousands
Got fat and lazy and covetous
Is the answer to sell all we have, or take a vow of poverty?
No the answer is to be aware of it,
the answer is to say God in what ways you prosper me help me to see it as a good steward, and bless others because of it,
Lord I always want to be in a position where I am compensating your prosperity by being a help and blessing to other people

Negative- I don’t want to give my tithe to the church, why should I give to missions?
I would be a blessing to others with my possessions but it would be such a mess and so much work

When we choose to be selfish we lose the blessing of God
