Teachers build a curriculum to take students through for the semester.
Jesus is the master teacher.
Our passage this morning involves a pop-quiz for the disciples.
What they experience in this passage was a part of their training.
Their classroom if you will.
Jesus had been teaching on faith and now it was a chance for them to activate their knowledge.
At the end of the day - the Lord Jesus wants your heart.
That’s what he’s after and as we dive in this morning, let’s look at how Jesus went after their hearts.

Did Jesus know that the storm was coming?
Of course He did!
The storm was a part of that day’s curriculum.
It would help the disciples understand a lesson that they did not even know they needed to learn: Jesus can be trusted in the storms of life.
Many people have the idea that storms come to their lives only when they have disobeyed God, but this is not always the case.
Jonah ended up in a storm because of his disobedience, but the disciples got into a storm because of their obedience to the Lord.

Something that terrified me as a kid was storms.
Even more terrifying for me growing up in tornado alley were storms at night.
Jesus knew the storm was coming and went anyways.
It was time for the master to let his students learn a lesson in faith.
He knows what’s happening, has purpose in his activity, and knows how it’s going to end.
He’s confident in crossing.
Some take this passage and teach that when storms of life hit us, Jesus will calm them.
But this isn’t the true message of this passage.
He did not promise an easy trip, but He did promise a guaranteed arrival at their destination.
Faith is the confidence that no matter what wind and waves come your way, the God of the universe is in the boat with you! - Platt
He will get you to the other side.
Our hope is in Heaven.
That’s our destination.
