1 For I want you to know how great a struggle I have for you and for those at Laodicea and for all who have not seen me face to face, 2 that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ, 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. 4 I say this in order that no one may delude you with plausible arguments. 5 For though I am absent in body, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the firmness of your faith in Christ.
6 Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, 7 rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.
8 See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. 9 For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, 10 and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority. 11 In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead. 13 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. 15 He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.
16 Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. 17 These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ. 18 Let no one disqualify you, insisting on asceticism and worship of angels, going on in detail about visions, puffed up without reason by his sensuous mind, 19 and not holding fast to the Head, from whom the whole body, nourished and knit together through its joints and ligaments, grows with a growth that is from God.
20 If with Christ you died to the elemental spirits of the world, why, as if you were still alive in the world, do you submit to regulations— 21 “Do not handle, Do not taste, Do not touch” 22 (referring to things that all perish as they are used)—according to human precepts and teachings? 23 These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in promoting self-made religion and asceticism and severity to the body, but they are of no value in stopping the indulgence of the flesh.

Introduction
In today’s world, all kinds of information is just around everywhere in social media and internet, where everyone whether a child, a youth, a professional, or an adult, can access and share information under their own discretion. There is no absolute censorship even a parents for their child. These information can mold our children’s mind, change our beliefs and perspective, and even our way of life.
Today is a high time that we must build our foundation in Christ the right way and not based on the opinion of others or a any tradition or trends that has no foundation in Christ.
In today’s time that disinformation is prevalent, we must stand in our faith and be confident that in any time our faith may be challenged, we will be a conqueror and will “LET NO ONE” to deceive us nor capture us by their beliefs and philosophy.
Our study of Colossians is very relevant today as it has been since the beginning it was written.
As we all know, this letter was written by Paul to the believers in Colossea. Though he was not physically met them, Epaphras his fellow servant in the Christ, reported to Paul what was happening to the Church, and how the false teaching are so prevalent from in and out of the Church.
Most of the believers in the Church are gentiles with some Jews. And we have to acknowledge the pressure from their surroundings who worship other gods such as but not limited to Artemis, Helios, Demeter, Men, Isis, and Serapis. Also their social environment believe in Mystical experience, Roman imperial cult, and Judaism.
Eerdmans Dictionary of the Bible Colossae
Roman Colossian coins indicate the worship of numerous deities, including Artemis, Helios, Demeter, Men, Isis, and Serapis. To this religious milieu could presumably be added Phrygian mysteries, the Roman imperial cult, and Judaism.
The
As we have learned last month in Chapter 1, Paul begins his letter by exalting the Supremacy, Sufficiency, and Authority of Christ. That Christ is all and all. He is God who became flesh to reconcile us and to present us holy and blameless before God. That Christ is enough for us to be saved.
Now, as we continue our study, we will look into the ways and means of Satan, the father of lies, to capture and deceive the believers. And of course we will look into the greater plan and purpose of our gracious LORD and Saviour Jesus Christ. I hope and I pray that His word would encourage us to grow more deeper into the truth knowledge of God according to Christ. And that this study would warn us not to be deceived by the works of Satan.
(LET US PRAY)
In , Paul presents his mission in the ministry.
[Give emphasis to “warning everyone”]
Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ.
28 Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ. 29 For this I toil, struggling with all his energy that he powerfully works within me.
"Let no one” - was mentioned four (4) times in Chapter 2
I say this in order that no one may delude you with plausible arguments.
See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.
Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath.
Colossians 2:
Let no one disqualify you, insisting on asceticism and worship of angels, going on in detail about visions, puffed up without reason by his sensuous mind,
These repeated words gives us a great warning of the ploy of Satan. His ways and means to deceive us.
15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.

Colossians 2:
Wag natin hayaan na tayo ay mabihag ng kaaway sa pamamagitan ng mga idelohiya na hindi ayon kay Kristo. Mga paniniwala na hindi nagdudulot ng paglago at paglalim kay Kristo.
When these beliefs comes to us, lets ask this question: “Does it give Christ the place of supremacy?”
How does the enemy starts to capture you?
I say this in order that no one may delude you with plausible arguments.
Now this I say lest anyone should deceive you with persuasive words.
16 Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?
18 Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise.
18 Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise.
19 For the wisdom of this world is folly with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their craftiness,”
EXAMPLE:
“Kapatid, okay lang yan! God loves you. Nauunawaan ka ng Dios. Ituloy mo lang yan.”
“I worship God is spirit and truth. Kaya kahit hindi ako magsimba sa Church, okay lang. Mag-youtube nalang ako, at manuod ng worship service. Convenient na hindi ko pa nakikita ung mga makasalanan, nagbabanal-banalan, at mga hipokrito na tao.”
“Claim it kapatid! Napanaginipan kita kagabi, may malaking blessing daw na dadating sayo. Claim mo na yan!”
“Ako, kahit hindi na ako nakakasimba, ang puso ko naman ay sumasamba sa Kanya. Alam ako nauunawaan Niya ang kalagayan ko. Napakabuti nga ng Dios, kasi kahit ganito ako, pinagpapala Niya pa rin ako.”
Listen Church, these are arguments or words that is not according to Christ.
These are Satan’s lies. Look on how Satan use and quote the scripture to deceive Jesus Christ in the wilderness.
2 And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 And the tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.” 4 But he answered, “It is written,
“ ‘Man shall not live by bread alone,
but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ ”
5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and set him on the pinnacle of the temple 6 and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written,
“ ‘He will command his angels concerning you,’
and
“ ‘On their hands they will bear you up,
lest you strike your foot against a stone.’ ”
7 Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’ ” 8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to him, “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.” 10 Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written,
“ ‘You shall worship the Lord your God
and him only shall you serve.’ ”

Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ.
Background of False teachers: Mixed oriental mysticism with Greek philosophy and Jewish legalism.
The Colossian believers were involved in Jewish legalism—rituals, diets, holidays, and so on.
Like the child who admires his father’s photo while he ignores his father’s presence, so these Christians had turned from the fullness of Christ to the ABCs (“elements”—2:8, 20) of the world.

Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,

Let no one disqualify or cheat you of your reward. Meaning, if you are of Christ, you should not be identified with these practices and false belief.
Let us remember that we are ri
We are blessed with all spiritual blessings in Christ.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places,
We have been granted all things that we need in life and godliness.
Ephesians 1:3
His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence,
2 Peter 1
“Mayaman tayo sa Panginoon”
These practices are self-centered, showing a false humility seemingly godly, but does not add value in our spirituality and relationship with Christ.
These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in promoting self-made religion and asceticism and severity to the body, but they are of no value in stopping the indulgence of the flesh.
That is Satan’s Ploy.
Now, let’s take a look into our Saviour’s Plan which is an encouragement as Paul declares in
[Emphasis on: “that their hearts may be encouraged”]
1 For I want you to know how great a struggle I have for you and for those at Laodicea and for all who have not seen me face to face, 2 that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ,

[Give emphasis on: “to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge”]

True wisdom and knowledge can only be found in Christ.
9 And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10 so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;
9 And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,
Colossians 2:
Christ-centered wisdom and knowledge is essential in our daily walk with Him. To be pleasing to Him. And to bear fruit with Him.
John MacArthur
No matter where you are in your spiritual growth, Scripture is sufficient to equip you for every good work.
9 And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment,
9 And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, 10 so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,
True wisdom and knowledge is always bounded by love. Love that is increasing more and more as we move closer to Christ. It is essential for us to identify what is true between right and almost right.

Colossians 1:
Charles Spurgeon
Discernment is not knowing the difference between right and wrong. It is knowing the difference between right and almost right.
God wants us to be:
Established in the faith and foundation in Christ
Established in the faith and foundation in Christ
Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.
[Give Emphasis on: “so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes”]
12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, 14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.

11 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, 14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.

You see: the purpose of every ministers and workers of Christ is to equip you and BUILD YOU up in Christ. Why? So we will not be carried away by the lies of the enemy.
10 According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it. 11 For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 3:10-
We must establish our foundation in Christ.
God wants us to:
Expand our growth in the body of Christ
Expand our growth in the body of Christ
[Give Emphasis on: “and not holding fast to the Head, from whom the whole body, nourished and knit together its joints and ligaments, grows with a growth that is from God.”
Colossians 2:18-
Kapatid, it is essential that we are really part in the body of Christ. This is essential because if you are not growing, you might not be in the body of Christ. You might not be Christian at all. If we are indeed in Christ, we must grow in Christ. You cannot be connected but not growing. It is OXYMORON or self-contradicting. You cannot contradict the law of God.
Life grows and flourish. Dead matters fall and burned.
5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
John 15:
6 If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned.
John 15:
If indeed we are in the body of Christ, there is growth. And one of the main reason why we do not grow is because we are not connected to the body of Christ. We are not part of Him. Christ is not in us. And we are deceived and captured by the deception of Satan, the enemy, and father of lies.
[Give Emphasis on: “if indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard,...”]
22 he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him, 23 if indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, became a minister.
Colossians 1:
The true manifestation that we are indeed reconciled is spiritual growth.
Many Christians are so stuffed with spiritual junk food that they’ve lost their appetite for sound biblical doctrine.
Many
Yes, this is a problem of many Christians today.
Conclusion
Conclusion
Church, God wants us to be confident in our walk in Christ. And we can attain that high level of confidence when we let Christ to control our lives, for indeed, as the scripture declares, CHRIST IN YOU, the hope of glory.
Colossians 1:27
27 To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
The mystery has been revealed to us, and that is Christ. Our hope and our glory.
Let us build our confidence in Christ. Indeed, let no one but Christ.
