Preface to Understanding the Trinity

We are incapable of seeing God as he is in our current state, we will know more when we are changed.
1 John 3:2 ESV
2 Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.
1 jn 3:
Seeking knowledge of God can be like knowledge of people
We love to categorize people
The cool kids
The athletes
The nerds
Sometimes we have more refined ways to categorize people
Type A or Type B
Firstborn personality vs Middle Child
Introvert or extrovert
Personality tests like Myers Briggs
Or 16 personalities .com which categorizes everyone into one of 16 categories
Defender, Adventurer, Mediator, or debater among those.
We categorize people by their appearances, ethnicity, background, soci-economic status, political affiliations, and even eschatological beliefs.
I can’t believe that guy is amillennial
And the point is we are content keeping our understanding of most people in those boxes.
We don’t pursue a knowledge of them beyond that.
We don’t have any desire or make effort to learn more about a person
OR
Pursue with a love infatuation with that which brings the greatest joy and delight. Pursuing that which we loves simply desires to be closer and needs not simple categories.

Explanation of the Trinity

Genesis 1:26–27 ESV
26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
Genesis 2:24 ESV
24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
Genesis 11:7 ESV
7 Come, let us go down and there confuse their language, so that they may not understand one another’s speech.”
Psalm 45:6–7 ESV
6 Your throne, O God, is forever and ever. The scepter of your kingdom is a scepter of uprightness; 7 you have loved righteousness and hated wickedness. Therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions;
Psalm 110:1 ESV
1 The Lord says to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool.”
Ps 110

Dangers of Going Beyond

Genesis 1:26–27 NASB95PARA
26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
Exodus 32:4–6 ESV
4 And he received the gold from their hand and fashioned it with a graving tool and made a golden calf. And they said, “These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt!” 5 When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it. And Aaron made a proclamation and said, “Tomorrow shall be a feast to the Lord.” 6 And they rose up early the next day and offered burnt offerings and brought peace offerings. And the people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.
