Text - ;
I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel,
which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ.
But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.
You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me.
Background
Background
Part 1 - Paul warned the believers in Galatia that there was no other gospel except that which they have already received. Any other gospel is not from God.
Part 2 - Although there is no other gospel, the Bible teaches us that the it (the Gospel) has delivered to men at different times and in different “forms”. One of them was the “promises” of God to the fathers.
Main Point
Main Point
The gospel was delivered to Israel in yet another ‘form”, that of the types and shadows contained in the Scripture.
Scripture - the Law, the Prophets, and the Psalms ()
Shadow -
“Good News” was an O.T. terminology

Jesus was in the Law and the Prophets
Jesus was in the Law and the Prophets
According to the Apostles
Philip
Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found Him of whom Moses in the law, and also the prophets, wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”
Paul
But this I confess to you, that according to the Way which they call a sect, so I worship the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the Law and in the Prophets.
Acts 24.
So when they had appointed him a day, many came to him at his lodging, to whom he explained and solemnly testified of the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus from both the Law of Moses and the Prophets, from morning till evening.
Acts 28.23
Peter
According to Jesus Himself
You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me.
Then He said to them, “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.”
He even rebuked the disciples -
The Purpose of the Law (and the Prophets) was to bring Us to Christ
The Purpose of the Law (and the Prophets) was to bring Us to Christ
Following Paul’s flow of thought in the Galatians epistle…
The Law was given because of transgressions, until the “promised” Seed should come
19 What purpose then does the law serve? It was added because of transgressions, till the Seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was appointed through angels by the hand of a mediator.
The Law served as a guardian and a tutor that will bring people to Christ
22 But the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.
23 But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, kept for the faith which would afterward be revealed.
24 Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
25 But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.
The Law and Prophets preached the Gospel of Christ
The Law and Prophets preached the Gospel of Christ
In the form of shadows
16 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths,
17 which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.
1 For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who approach perfect.
In the form of prophecies
24 Yes, and all the prophets, from Samuel and those who follow, as many as have spoken, have also foretold these days.
The Law and the Prophets proclaimed the essential elements of the Gospel
The Law and the Prophets proclaimed the essential elements of the Gospel
10 Of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you,
11 searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.
12 To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to us they were ministering the things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things which angels desire to look into.
The Law and the prophets preached on “grace that would come to you”
the Law and the Prophets preached about the suffering and glorification of Christ
the Law and the Prophets ministered the gospel to US!
24 Yes, and all the prophets, from Samuel and those who follow, as many as have spoken, have also foretold these days.
36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”
37 Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
the Law and Prophets were all about LOVE, which was essentially the NEW COMMANDMENT OF CHRIST
21 But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets,
22 even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference;
The Law and the Prophets vindicates the
