Human Sinfulness
“What is sin?
It is the glory of God not honored.
The holiness of God not reverenced.
The greatness of God not admired.
The power of God not praised.
The truth of God not sought.
The wisdom of God not esteemed.
The beauty of God not treasured.
The goodness of God not savored.
The faithfulness of God not trusted.
The commandments of God not obeyed.
The justice of God not respected.
The wrath of God not feared.
The grace of God not cherished.
The presence of God not prized.
The person of God not loved.
That is sin.”
― John Piper
Seeks selfish agendas
-The Pharisees had no respect or interest in the law or Moses.
They had failed to live by this particular law for years.
In fact under Roman law, the Jews could not put someone to death.
-The Pharisees were shrewd.
They knew they had a way to condemn Jesus no matter how he responded.
If Jesus says to ignore the law of Moses, they could now bring him to trial for outright blasphemy and teaching against Moses.
If Jesus says to stone her, they could bring him before the Romans for breaking Roman law and attempting to begin a rebellion.
