The Mission of Habc
And all the days of Lamech were seven hundred seventy and seven years: and he died. And Noah was five hundred years old: and Noah begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.
And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.
And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.
And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.
A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it.
Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.
And the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.
And Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth.
Now isn’t that amazing Noah lived 500 years without anything significant happening in his life
He was a good guy raised a family was righteous but up to that point not to much happened in his life that we know about
And after 500 years something changed
He got a new revelation from the Lord He got a mission from the Lord
And then after he got that mission what he did in the next 100 years changed the history of the world and directly affected every living thing on the face of the earth. He is your Grandpa
From that point on he was a man with a mission and because he had a mission not only did his life change and his families life change but the history of the world changed
IF you are the one that has found grace in the eyes of God he will give you a mission.
The bible is a book of The Lords mission and those men that led in doing the Lord's mission and those that helped them or opposed them.
Adam had a mission
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
Abraham his mission was to go look for a city whose builder and maker was God To be the father of a nation.
The Lord's mission was a lamb slain before the foundation of the world. John the Baptist said behold the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the World.
Paul’s mission was Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God
Jonah had a mission
Ezrah Esther Neimiah Daniel
You and I have one as well
The Mission of Huisache Avenue Baptist Church is to glorify the Lord. We do that by seeking the lost, teaching the found, and inspiring Christians to serve the Lord.

Having a Mission is Important

I will be here for almost 12 years
And for the biggest part of those 12 years I was not really Clear on what I was doing or why we were here
If you asked me I would have taken a lot of time to give you a complicated answer.
And because of the uncertainty I could not effectively lead the church forward in a specific direction.
And because of that not only was I confused everyone else was as well.
They came out of habit but no sense of purpose or direction.
Why are you here because we are supposed to be. Why I do not know.
How do you fit in ? that is a good question.
Why does Habc exist what is the church trying to do trying to accomplish
I talked to a preacher church had grown a lot said what are you doing he said I started teaching what we are supposed to do instead of all the time on what everyone else was doing wrong, who we are and why we exist.
What is your mission ? misson what makes you unique what has god called you to do how are you different than the food bank?
So I got ahold of the bible and got ahold of God and this is were the mission came from
That made a difference First thing I noticed
Malachi
the meetings started to make sense
Everything started to fit together
We were able to stop doing a lot of things that were not part of what we should be doing.
Man is so designed that he needs a cause
I read a leadership book called extreme ownership by a navy seal and what he said was that were a lot of people fail is the leaders know the mission but they have not clearly communicated it to others it never gets accomplished because if the rifleman on the front lines the lowest level enlisted guy does not know what he is doing the mission fails it is important that everyone knows the mission
The nursery supports the mission by providing a loving environment for the children, the caregivers and the parents.
it gives significance to the otherwise meaningless details of our lives…Too many times the routines of life begin to feel like shoveling dirt. But take those same routines, those same responsibilities, and view them through the lens of the mission and everything looks different. it brings order to chaos.
What have I noticed in the last five years?
We have gotten something done we have grown people have grown and been helped and the church is unrecognizable today versus five years ago the maintenance minded people left and God added mission minded people.
But on a more micro level here is what encouraged me the most.
National honor society application Isiah
Leadership Provide time when you demonstrated leadership qualities Masters club
Explain how you were a leader in this instance.
Served the community.
Orchestra
maintenance
singing
If they let you in the NHS at the ceremony The Mc will read two sentences about you what do you want them to read. Roland has dedicated hundreds of hours of service to the Lord He has worked with adults and taught children teaching and inspiring others to serve the Lord Fulfilling the mission of his Church.
Been giving the kids talking to why are we here fishing or something. To glorify the Lord.
What is your church about. And over the last few years since I have first taught the mission
And hearing my 6 year old be able to explain church and why we exist and what we are supposed to do just did something for me. Listen the kids can get this
But you should not just pick a cause pick a mission you need to be doing God's mission and be a part of something that is real and has eternal value
But the Lord put us here for a purpose just like he put noah here for a purpose and maybe it is not the same purpose but he wants you to be a part of something that changes history and changes eternity and makes an eternal difference
Or you will end up investing your life into fighting for gay rights
Or for global warming
Or for the spotted owl
Or for the environment
Or to end world hunger
It is so easy to get people involved in things that do not matter because from their spiritual leaders they lack mission and do not clearly understand what god wants them to do
And because so many people do not know what that is they make up their own mission and they get to the end of their lives and they find they wasted it because they did not know what the Lord's mission for them was
When a church does not have a mission the people are not unified around what the Lord wants them to do
And they begin to fight and quarrel and become dissatisfied
And they begin to attack one another and slander one another and they start trying to do the Lord's job instead of doing the mission God called them to do
Preaching on our church’s mission is not a gimmick. It is what god called us to do he gave the mission
Our mission comes directly from the Word of God. The Bible teaches that the church’s mission is a way to unify a body of believers with a single purpose. With a clear mission in place, people are able to effectively serve the Lord through the local church which allows us to bring glory to God.
Teaching about our mission helps people to understand our goals as a church and allows them to serve the Lord more efficiently in their ministries: i.e. prayer, tithing, teaching, serving, helping, and singing. With a better understanding of why our church exists, we can all come together in a way that pleases the Lord.
Let's look at the mission and as we go through this I want you to understand why we are here

Our Mission is to Glorify the Lord

Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
The LORD hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.
Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.
This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise.
To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.
And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
The bible could not be more clear on this
And we are very serious about this
This forms the motivation the basis for all we do
Does it bring glory to the Lord good do it does it bring glory to god no than cut it out
How does my action affect the reputation of the Lord how does it help the cause of christ
What is God doing? What is the mission of God? What is God about? If we look at the universe, if we look at the fact that you and I are here, what is God trying to accomplish? The answer to that question is a little bit unsettling for us in this culture. Because ultimately God is about God, God is for God and God’s mission is to make much of God. Yes He loves you, yes He is your shepherd and yes He will provide for you, protect you and guide you, but the motivation behind all of that isn’t for Him to make much of you but rather for Him to make much of Himself in you.
Every song we sing every dollar we give every sermon we preach every diaper we change
Every sunday school lesson we prepare
Every battery we change every video we record
Not for the pastor not for the church but for the Lord
Every service we attend to bring him glory and honor
God is not here for me I am here for him
That changes how we go to church it changes why we go to church it changes everything we do
Not to uphold baptist tradition not for any other reason but for the glory of God
It changes every trial we face
It changes how we treat our enemies
And when the church is operated that way by people that do not have their own agenda aGod can use that church
And they Lord adds people to the church that want to march to the beat of his drum.
Paul is describing the Character of human sin He writes:
Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
That sounds rather anticlimactic. That’s the essence of sin that we don’t glorify God yes it is because it says I am the master of my own destiny and it is refusing to give him thanks for your existence and not acknowledging his authority over you.
It is the path to Gory or the path to destruction
The chief end of man is to glorify the Lord and enjoy his presence forever.
You can do it now you do not have to wait

Our Mission is to seek the Lost

And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;
You know what Noah was doing ? he was preaching you better repent you better get right there is a flood coming on the world of the ungodly
He never stopped preaching the whole world went to hell
It was not his responsibility to save them it was only his responsibility to seek them.
And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Mat_18:11 For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.
What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?
And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing.
And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost.
I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.
2Co_4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
Mat_5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.
Our vision statement says this Our prayer is that within 100 years no honest history of Christianity, in San Antonio, could be written without discussing the impact of our church. We strive to minister to the community and to make a meaningful difference for the Lord’s Eternal Kingdom.
That is not going to be done unless some people get saved.
No matter where you go you should let your light shine and tell people about The Lord that died for them so they can be saved.
Gary Lutes his wife, Linda, died of breast cancer 4½ years before. Now he was begging to be delivered from the darkness that had closed in around him and his two young sons. Trapped for five days in the chill depths of West Virginia’s New Trout Cave, tormented by hunger and thirst, they had finally lain down on the cave floor together. “Yes, we lay down to die, so to speak,” recalls Lutes. “We were just so tired, so exhausted. We felt like we’d fought as long as we could and we were ready to rest.” Lutes, 20-year caving veteran, and his sons, Gary Jr. (“Buddy”), 13, and Tim, 9, he and the boys set up camp by New Trout Cave, a limestone cave that extends horizontally 200 feet beneath the peak of a dome-like hill. At the mouth of the cave the three put on gloves, kneepads and hard hats fitted with carbide lamps for the lightless world within. . “By the first night our mouths were feeling dry, like cotton,” says Lutes. “I would have given anything for that canteen of water.” At about 9:30, bats began making squeaking noises and fluttering around the intruders. “I guess they were checking us out,” says Lutes.
Magnesium dioxide dust from mining in the cave more filled their mouths and clogged their throats. Lutes and Buddy coughed incessantly. “Hundreds of times I told the boys I was sorry,” says Lutes, his voice breaking. “They kept reassuring me that it wasn’t my fault, that they wanted to be there as much as I did, and no matter what happened they still loved It was on the third day that Lutes began to think he was dying. He felt a pain in his chest, and he started seeing flashes of light. “I told the boys, ‘There may come a time when one of us is going to go first. If by some chance that happens to be me, I want you to take my shirt.’ That got them all churned up. I remember the three of us just hugging each other for so long and crying, but I’d dehydrated to where there were no tears. There was nothing.” As the three lay together drifting in and out of sleep, Lutes heard someone calling Tim’s name. “I thought it was my mind playing tricks on me,” he says. “I just lay there and didn’t say a thing. It was Tim who sat up and started yelling, and I realized if he was hearing the same thing I was, it must be real. Then we all three sat up and started yelling.” Fifteen minutes later, their five-day nightmare ended, as two rescuers approached. “The lights on their hats seemed like a high beam from a car shining in our eyes, Lutes remembers. “I didn’t turn my head away. I looked at it. I loved seeing that light.” Cavers Chuck Hempel and Marty Hardy, the first to reach the Luteses, saw three blackened faces with only the whites of their eyes showing clearly. Lutes and Buddy stumbled out of the cave on their own; Tim had to be carried. At the mouth of the cave, Lutes remembers being overwhelmed with smells. “Caves have a musty, damp odor,” he says. “You can smell the rock. Man, when we got to the entrance of the cave, I was hit with this hot, humid air that had the smell of trees, leaves and flowers—so many odors all of a sudden. I could also see everything,” he adds. “Even though it was the middle of the night, it seemed like we were in broad daylight.” Lutes was also exhilarated with relief. “It was an answer to a prayer to be able to be out there looking up at the stars—and to know my children were going to be able to grow up.” Someone came seeking them with a light they did not have one this world is lost in a cave of sin and they do not even know it
We have a light they do not have shine it.
If not us who ?
What other church is going to encourage everyone and train and equip them to witness?
If not you who ? Who else in your neighborhood is going to do it ?
If not you at your work who else ?
God wants us to find those lost in the world of sin and throw them the life line.
The church has went on because for the last 2000 years there are some people that have not forgotten the mission that he gave them when he left.
We shall continue on in that fashion
That is why we exist to be a light. To be salt a city set on a hill
Listen Jesus died for us to keep us out of hell and the least we can do as a church is seeking the Lost to pray for them to love em to witness to them.
A preacher in atlanta said it was easy to build the biggest church in america everyone else was marketing to saved people we just created a church lost people enjoyed the only problem with that is they stayed lost.
"A time will come when instead of shepherds feeding the sheep, the church will have clowns entertaining the goats." - Charles H. Spurgeon

Our mission to teach the found

If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.
2Ti_2:2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
People need to be taught what their purpose is
I did not know till a man read a book called for his pleasure it changed my life
They need to be taught what pleases the Lord
They need to be taught to pray
How to overcome the devil
How to overcome sin add to faith virtue change in character moral excellence. I was not taught to do it till later.
Every young man needs to be taught about lust and how the Lord says to deal with it
Every couple needs to be taught what the Lord says about marriage
You are not automatically installed with the knowledge of how to be married it does not come naturally and no one is teaching it
We need to be taught about what the Lord thinks about this present evil world
You see the Lord left us this precious bible full of truth and what we know about it has to be committed to faithful men who shall be able to teach others also
Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.
For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:
The teaching is gone from the modern church
Ted talk with a bible verse
we do that discipleship they learn and the people they teach learn
We want every one of you to be equipped to help a young christian grow
Sundays school
Teaching kids to know God and walk with Him anywhere
Preaching
And as a church there is no greater joy than teaching someone how to please the Lord and serve the Lord
As a christian it is exciting to learn new things about the Lord but as a pastor it is far more exciting to see young christians learn things and overcome things
That is what the church is to teach christians how to serve the Lord
Do you remember who taught you how to tie your shoes ?
Who taught you how to ride a bike ?
Who taught you how to make your first tortilla ?
What a blessing it is to be the place that teaches people how to please the Lord
That is what we are about.
And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

Our Mission to inspire christians to serve the Lord

- For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
For God [is] not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.
11 And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end:
12 That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
You know why you present him your body ? because we are the body of christ and we are to be his hands and his feet and his mouth
“My Lord, I have mistreated You all my Christian life.I have treated You like a servant...I shall do so no more. Just now I give You this body of mine; from my head to my feet. I give You my hands, my limbs, my eyes and lips, my brain; all that I am within and without, I hand over to You for You to live in it the life that You please. You may send this body to Africa, or lay it on a bed of cancer...It is Your body from this moment on. Help yourself to it. Thank You, my Lord, I believe You have accepted it, for in Romans twelve You said, “acceptable unto God.”
Eph_4:16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.
And if they were all one member, where were the body?
So why not come along with me and let us do something great for the Lord let's put our lives into something that matters something eternal
Something that can change the course of history something that can make an impact on eternity
And here our mission is to inspire you to lay aside some of the things you want to do and pick up a bible and a spiritual sword and a spoon and join in the army of the Lord take up your weapon beside your brother and sisters in christ and build an ark for the Glory of the Lord that can make a difference in san antonio.
And while the billows roll and the rain comes down we can be safe inside the ark.
When people join the church we go over this and we say I agree wholeheartedly with this mission and will do my part to see it accomplished.
Let us continue to be a mission minded church.
So what are we doing here today we are working together to see the Lords mission accomplished.
We support it financially sacrificially we donate our time talents and treasures to the organization called the church that the Lord gave his life for.
