Now, let’s look at the Mark account together.
What did you see, what did you notice, what sticks out to you?

Jesus had been crucified (Mk15:22-41); buried (Mk15:42-46) they watched to see where he was buried (Mk15:47) now we get to the next sequence of events.
Jesus was going to make his appearance.
Saturday night (after Sabbath over) purchase made to anoint Him (Mk16:1)
Early, before dawn (Sunday; first day of the week) they come to the tomb (Mk16:2)
There was a pending question, who was going to do the heavy lifting (Mk16:3)
First I think we need to identify the who (Mk16:1; Lk24:10)
Who do we see? (Mary M, Mary mother of James, and Salome, as well as other women.
FYI, the Mary mother of James is believed to be: "Mary, mother of James the Less and Joseph, wife of Alphaeus was the sister of Mary the mother of the Lord, whom John names of Cleophas"

Mary of Magdalene (Mk16:9-11; Jn20:11-18; Lk24:10-12; Lk7:38)
We know from text that Jesus cast out 7 spirits from her (Mk16:9)
She also can know she ran to tell others what she heard (MK16:10)
Mary was filled with emotions (Jn20:11) and it was her norm (Lk7:38)

They fled the tomb, but He appeared to Mary, then to them while they were on the way
The attitude o the women was that they had come to pay the last tribute to a dead body.
The attitude of the apostles was that everything had finished in tragedy.
The women wanted to pay last respect to the one they loved, the one they enjoyed being with, the one who was so gracious and forgiving.
It was not a matter of Messianic Prophesy not being fulfilled, it was about the one the missed.

Look at those words; those who seek Him early, it was early, before the sun rose, it was still dark.
Are we willing to get up early to seek the living Lord?
Don’t look at it as an obligation that must be fulfilled, but an opportunity that should be seized!
Jon Courson said “If you feel as though you are in the dark now, be like these women, rise early and seek the risen Lord”
These women were the first with the resurrection story!
Why?
Because they sought the Lord!

There is much to learn from what was said in all these accounts but we will get to some of that as we go.
Love speaks
Love speaks of the resurrection story and with eyes and hearts that are amazed and even disbelief is still there, love still speaks.
Love questioned (Mk16:3-4)
The women who wanted to pay last respects to the one they loved had a question, who would roll the stone away.
They get to the tomb and the stone had been rolled away (v.4)
The stone that was rolled away was not to let Jesus out, He could walk through the stone, but it was for the women, then John and Peter to be able to come in, to see the reality of the resurrection
The proof of the resurrection was needed so man could know that God’s scheme of redemption was complete in Jesus for without it people could still worship any of the gods.
The resurrection places Jesus in a category by Himself for all the other supposed gods are dead and buried.
The resurrection proves the validity of the sacrifice and also the ability for us to live in Christ.
It is not about our being good to get into heaven, it is not about us trying to imitate someone, but about the one who imparted love on us!
The resurrection is essential to the Christian faith.
Loves speaks in amazement (Mk16:5-6; Lk24:4)
What can we learn here.
they “the women” entered the tomb, saw a young man, heard the man, he explained to them that love has risen and showed them proof of the resurrection.
In Luke it says two men; Mark only focuses on one
Would you be amazed, perplexed if you were with them?
These women the first recipients of the resurrection story, witnessed the proof of the prophesy fulfilled right before them.
I would think sure I’d be amazed, either that or freaking out.
Love gives direction (Mk16:7; Jn20:2-10); love is displayed (Jn20:11-18; Mt28:8-10)
What are the instructions given and the promise given?
Go! tell the disciples and Peter
Peter who was feeling pretty low you can bet, having denied the Lord, feeling could not be bearer of Good News because of choice.
So when Peter get’s word, along with John they come running (keep your finger or your ribbon there in Mark, but turn to John20:2-10 with me)

What do you see, what more is filled in for us from the John passage?
Now I don’t want us to stop there for now love is going to reveal Himself.
So Mary of Magdelene was the first one to see the risen Savior and she brought the message of hope of the resurrection, but it was not well received
Then, He revealed himself to the other women on the way.
Mt28:8
Oh don’t let me forget the other verse
They had fear and joy, great joy when they left the empty tomb, and then the met the risen Savior!
Notice the apostles position (Mk16:10-11)
Remember Christ came to give life full, but the thief came to kill, steal and destroy and here he is a thief of faith and a placer of unbelief.
Do you struggle with some form of unbelief at times, maybe because of a situation or circumstance you don’t understand.
We hold the faith maker in our hands, we hold the truth that refutes Satan’s faith and joy stealer.
It has rightly been said that a little faith will get you to heaven, but a larger faith will bring heaven to you!
