So I want to take the opportunity to thank Annie and the worship team for leading us in worship every week. God is with us every day and He is with us every Sunday as we gather together as the body of Christ. The Holy Spirit is here to give us strength, love and truth so that we may know who God is, who we are and praise the personal God who removed Himself from His throne to die on the cross for us.

We were reminded that we serve a God who see’s us every minute of every day. And we learned that God is a God of personal action. That He did not delegate His authority to the Angels of Heaven to watch over us. That He loves us so much that no other watchman will do. He wants to be active in our lives.

This week we are going to look at . We are in the part of Deuteronomy that highlights how Israel is supposed to worship God. Moses is reminding them because they are about to possess the promise land and He does not want them to worship the false Gods that were worshiped by the ones who dwell there. In addition, their worship to God would include taking care of the poor within the land.

But Chapter 15 deals with the sabbatical year. This meant that at the end of every seven years they needed to grant a release. They needed to forgive debt between each other and make sure that there was no poor among them.

And if any Hebrew man or women had been sold to them, then on the seventh year they would be redeemed (FREED) and would be given generously to by their owner. The owner would give from their own flocks and winepresses.

And the people who dwelled in the promise land where known and loved by God. That people loved God and where with God because God chose them and loved them.

I was transported back to when I was living in Egypt. I did not love God and I did not know God. I was living a life of earthly pleasures that made me in every way a slave to my own self-gratification. And what I remember is that I was happy in my rebellion until one day I woke up empty. I woke up empty and powerless to control my life. I realized the soles of my feet as I was wondering in the desert were sore, tired and exhausted.

I didn’t have hope in the future. I didn’t even see a point in having a future. But, our loving active God pursued me and gave me hope. He gave me hope in Him when He revealed himself to me.

I realized that I was a slave to sin, a slave to the law and I found out that He redeemed me. That I was loved and a future in Him was everything that I would ever need.

Now I am not going to tell you all the details again of where I came from. But I think that we all have a story to tell of when we lived in Egypt. When we were apart from God.

So if Moses, was telling the Israelites to REMEMBER their deliverance out of Egypt, out of the house of slavery,

So if Moses, was telling the Israelites to REMEMBER their deliverance out of Egypt, out of the house of slavery,

Should we not also STOP and remember and pay close attention too our deliverance from Egypt?
Should we not also STOP and remember and pay close attention too our deliverance from Egypt?

That we were freed from bondage and sin by the precious blood of Christ.

Paul would have us remember the gift God gave us so that we can look onto the gift giver with love and affection. With gratitude for His love for us. This is meant to humble us so that we are patient with the ones still dwelling in the land of Egypt. That we may call out to them and point them to the redeemer.

You see the Israelites convinced themselves that their condition under Pharaoh was far better then risking escape. They reconciled their conflicting thoughts in order to find peace and reason for why they were in their present condition.

Then something beautiful happened! The chains were loosening.

So we look to our redemption now
And as you looked up the chains where lifted off your shoulders and you saw Jesus place those chains on His. And at once you have been set free.
So we look to our redemption now and we see the beauty of our freedom. I think as military we can understand pretty easily that there is always a price for freedom.
That blood was spilt time and time again in order for America to live with the blessing of freedom.
You see! We all have to REMEMBER that we too where slaves in Egypt.
Blood was spilt time and time again and a price had to be paid for eternal freedom. The symbol of a lamb was the continuous sacrifice in the Old Testament.
And when we remember the day we were content with our sins and slaves to the Prince of Darkness
Blessed are we because one final payment was made to give us eternal freedom. Eternal salvation. But it came at a price that we could not afford. We could never be redeemed with 40 pieces of silver and plot of land or anything that this world could produce.
We also remember that day when we would not resist the chains anymore that Jesus looked into our eyes with love and took the chains from our shoulders and placed them on His because He wanted to give us Redemption.
But instead the precious blood of Christ was spilt for us once and for all and nothing we could do could earn that love and the removal of the heavy chains that bound us to Egypt.

Because of Jesus you are now possessions of Him who promises you an eternal place where there will be no more sorrow and no more pain.
You were freed from a God who sees you and from a God of Power of action of Love.
Many families have lost their loved ones and carry the heavy burden of the freedom we enjoy today.

Conclusion
Conclusion
As we conclude let’s meditate on this text today.
15 “You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God redeemed you; therefore, I command you this today.”
We said in the beginning of the sermon that chapter 15 talked about the sabbatical year. That if a Hebrew man or women could not pay off a debt they would have to sell themselves into slavery to payback that debt.
But they could only be held for six years and on the seventh year they would be set free. But they would not be set free empty handed.
The employer would go into their flock, their own house and their own winepress and send them away generously.
They did this because God had blessed them generously and because
“they were a slave in the land of Egypt. And the Lord your God redeemed you”
Today I want you to remember your bondage and your redemption.
This remembrance should make you tender and kind to those that are still bound in chains.
As Christians, we should never be ungenerous, severe, angry and unkind.
We should have large hearts,
Do not be angry at every little fault or so quick to point out every mistake.
Be a Christian who has the light of Christ flowing out of them and on that seventh year send them away with some of your flock and wine from your winepress.
With this I will conclude,
Love all the people you come into contact with. You have been redeemed for a price that we could not fathom or pay.
Because the Son came down from heaven to die on a tree. His hands and feet were pierced. He died and rose again so that you and I would no longer be slaves in Egypt.
Look around you and see the ones that need to know Christ and then tell them about Him.
Look around you and see the ones who have heavy hearts, who are in pain. Pray with them and remind them that God loves them.
Pray with Me!
