Comfort

Times of pain and sorrow are part of living in this world.
We all suffer at times and we all have occasions of mourning.
But that’s not all there is to this world.
There is also beauty and joy.
And, even in times like these, when we see the beauty of friends and family that come together to comfort one another in the loss of a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, and brother in Christ, it is a great comfort for all of us.
When Lazarus, the brother of Mary and Martha, had died, the Bible says that their friends and family had come to comfort them.
So when Jesus came, He found that he had already been in the tomb four days. Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, about two miles away. And many of the Jews had joined the women around Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.
John 11:17-
It was when Jesus, their closest and dearest friend, came that Martha received the greatest comfort anyone could receive at a time such as this.
Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”
Martha said to Him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
She said to Him, “Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.”
John 11:23-
Paul said that we should all be comforted together in the hope of the resurrection.
For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.
Comfort was an important thought in much a Paul’s writing.
No doubt, if anyone knows our need for comfort it is the “God of all comfort.”
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ. Now if we are afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effective for enduring the same sufferings which we also suffer. Or if we are comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation. And our hope for you is steadfast, because we know that as you are partakers of the sufferings, so also you will partake of the consolation.
2 cor 1:3-7
So, on behalf of the friends and family of brother Charles Sellers, I want to thank you all for being a source of comfort and strength to Judy and the family at this time.
And, especially, we want to give thanks to God for the comfort and strength that He gives through His word.
