Gospel 25/03/01

The Man who loved Money!

Mark 10:17-31.

Matthew 19:21-22.

Luke 18:18.

Four things about this man:       1.         Good man        (teacher at school)

                                                                                    2.         Rich man          (Bill Gates)

                                                                                    3.         Young man       (Dad’s Story)

                                                                                    4.         Ruler                 (Pope)

Lord Jesus - travelling to Jerusalem for Passover - and His death.  Hindu’s -   ‘wash their sins away in the Ganges river,  Moslem’s - pilgrimage to Mecca Hajj festival.

            Starting on His way.

Things this man did right:           1.         Ran up to Him   (didn’t miss last opportunity)

                                                2.         Fell on his knee’s           (attitude - humility, genuine desire)

                                                3.         Before the Lord (right place/person)

                                                4.         Wanted eternal life         (right desire)

Things this man did wrong:  1.   “Good teacher”  (wrong appreciation of Christ)

                                                2.         “What must I do”            (works can’t save) All have fallen short

                                                3.         “All these I have”            (wrong appreciation of self)

                                                4.         Went away sad  (first commandment)

1 John 5:3  For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

1 ¶ Then Bildad the Shuhite replied:

2  "Dominion and awe belong to God; he establishes order in the heights of heaven.

3  Can his forces be numbered? Upon whom does his light not rise?

4  How then can a man be righteous before God? How can one born of woman be pure?

5  If even the moon is not bright and the stars are not pure in his eyes,

6  how much less man, who is but a maggot--a son of man, who is only a worm!"

By grace are you saved!            Not by works!

Jesus looked at him & loved him!           And a few short weeks later showed just how much He loved him as well as how much He loves you and me - by dying on the cross (for maggots!).
