Hebrews 11:5-6

Introduction

In Abel we see the way of faith.

In Enoch we see the walk of faith.

Enoch pleased God!

If we please God, it does not matter who we displease.  And if we displease God it does not matter who we please.

The way to please God is to walk by faith.

To walk by faith is to walk with God.

And to walk with God means to have an intimate relationship with Him.

How can we walk the walk of faith?

1A.      The Walk of Faith begins with Grace.  (Genesis 5:21-24)

1B.      Enoch’s walk was prompted by fear (5:21-22)

The sobering nature of Methuselah’s birth (5:21)

Ø      Our children should cause us to be more serious about our walk.

The prophetic nature of Methuselah’s name (5:22)

Methuselah = it shall be when he is dead

Ø      Methuselah was a living prophecy of the coming flood.

Ø      When Methuselah died the flood came!

Judgment is coming to our world

Matthew 24:37 "For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah.

Ø      God is merciful but judgment is sure!

2B.      Enoch’s walk was produced by faith

Fear is not enough – we must also have faith (Hebrews 11:5)

Faith is believing in God and believing God.

Romans 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.

Ø      Somehow, some way, someday God came to Enoch and called Enoch to Himself.

2A.      The Walk of Faith Will Continue to Grow.  (Philippians 3:7-11)

Four places we must follow Christ if we are to walk with Him…

1B.      To the Upper Room to develop a servant’s heart (John 13:3-5)

When we love, listen, and lay down our lives for others we are washing their feet.

The call to be a Christian is a call to minister and the call to minister is a call to wash feet.

2B.      To the Garden of Gethsemane to develop a surrendered heart (Matthew 26:36-39)

Jesus felt the pressure of the cross and the sin he would bear.

The will of God is good, perfect, acceptable, and eternal but it is not painless.

Ø      We must surrender daily!

Ø      God had one Son without sin, but He has no sons without suffering.

3B.      To Golgotha to gain a sacrificial heart

Positionally we have already been to the cross.  (Galatians 2:20)

Practically we must go to the cross daily.  ((2 Corinthians 4:10-11)

Ø      It is only when we die to sin and self that Christ’s life can be seen through us.

4B.      To the Empty Tomb to find a supernatural heart

In the empty tomb, we find the power to overcome the obstacles of this life!  ((Romans 8:37; 2 Corinthians 13:4)

3A.      The Walk of Faith will end in Glory.  (Hebrews 11:5)

1B.      Enoch’s walk ended in the presence of God.

He went to heaven without warning.

He went to heaven without waiting.

Ø      No intermediate stage.

2B.      Enoch’s walk was pleasing to God.

Application

We need men of faith.

Men who are qualified to serve (1 Timothy 3:1-13)

We need faithful men.

Men who are willingly to serve (Romans 12:4-8)

Where will you be at the end of your walk?

(Proverbs 14:12 NIV)  "There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death."

(Matthew 7:21 NIV)  ""Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven."

Will God be pleased with your walk?

(Matthew 25:21 NIV)  ""His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!'"
