*                                                    Church for the children*                              10~/12~/08

*                 Ps 127:3-4*

A lot of time, effort and money are spent on programs and activities for the children of the church and community.

To those who work so hard, does your effort have any real value or worth?

Is it worth the time, effort and cost?

Is it scriptural?

Is it something the Lord would have us do?

Can a child really praise God, if so does God recognize that praise?

*What children are and where they are from.*

* *

*Children* *are a gift from God. *

* *

*Ps 127:3-4*.

Behold,  *children /are/ a heritage from the Lord, *

     *The fruit of the womb /is/ a  reward*.

4     Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,

     So /are/ the children of one’s youth.

* *

*Children* *are capable of glorifying God.

     Because of Your enemies,

     That You may silence  the enemy and the avenger.

*Ps 148:12,13; *12     *Both young men and maidens; *

*     Old men and children.

*13     Let them praise the name of the Lord, *

     For His  name alone is exalted;

     His glory /is/ above the earth and heaven.

*15 But when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying out in the temple and saying, “Hosanna to the  Son of David!” they were indignant 16 and said to Him, “Do You hear what these are saying?”

And Jesus said to them, “Yes.

Have you never read,

 *‘Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants  /You have perfected praise’?/” *

*Children should be brought early to the house of God.

*24 Now *when she had weaned him*, *she  took him* up with her, with three bulls, one ephah of flour, and a skin of wine, *and brought him to  the house of the Lord* in Shiloh.

And the child /was/ young.

*Church is for the children because*

 

*Children should be brought to Christ.

*Mr 10:13-16.

*13  Then they brought little children to Him, that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked those who brought /them./

14 But when Jesus saw /it,/ He was greatly displeased and said to them, “*Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them;* for  of such is the kingdom of God.

15 Assuredly, I say to you,  whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.”

16 And *He took them up in His arms, laid /His/ hands on them, and blessed them.

*Children should be instructed in the ways of God.

*

*De 31:12,13;* 12  *Gather the people together, men and women and little ones*, and the stranger who /is/ within your gates, *that they may hear and that they may learn to fear the Lord your God and carefully observe all the words of this law*, 13 and /that/ their children,  who have not known it,  may hear and learn to fear the Lord your God as long as you live

*6     *Train up a child* in the way he should go,

     And when he is old he will not depart from it.

*Children should be judiciously trained.

*Pr 22:15; *15     Foolishness /is/ bound up in the heart of a child;

     The rod of correction will drive it far from him.

     Yes, he will give delight to your soul.

4 And  you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.

*Children should be taught to; *

* *

*Obey God.

*

*De 30:2.

*2 and you  *return to the Lord your God and obey His voice*, according to all that I command you today, *you and your children*, with all your heart and with all your soul,

*Fear God.

*

*Pr 24:21.

*21     *My son,  fear the Lord* and the king;

     Do not associate with those given to change;

 

*Remember God.

*Ec 12:1.

*Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth,

*Attend to parental teaching.

*8      *My son, hear the instruction of your father, *

*     And do not forsake the law of your mother; *

9     For they /will be/ a  graceful ornament on your head,

     And chains about your neck.

*Children,  *obey your parents in the Lord*, for this is right.
