The first story is about the book of Ruth
The narrative of the book Ruth takes place during the middle years in the book of Judges. This is very important because the a microcosm of the faithfulness of God because during the time Judges 2:11 “the Israelites did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh” and in Judges 21:25 “ everyone did whatever they wanted to do” Ruth is a stark contrast to Judges, by showing that even as the nation rejected and abandoned Yahweh, but a remnant of faithful individuals still existed and one was a non-Jewish Moabite, no less.
Another purpose of the book of Ruth is to showcase the faithfulness of God. God is named twenty five times in the four short chapters of Ruth and time and time again those chapters reveal God’s grace an faithfulness to Israelites in the midst of the chaotic period of the judges. Part of this faithfulness is the establishment of the genealogy of David and Jesus, reminding the reader that Yahweh,s sovereign hand was still firmly at the helm of his salvation plan, which is for all people - gentiles included. This sovereignty extends today over all our personal circumstances as well as our failures for his good purposes .

Ruth 1—Ruth’s Journey

Ruth 1. A Sojourn in Moab (1)

b. A certain man of Bethlehem: In these days, a man from Bethlehem left the land of Israel to sojourn in the country of Moab, because of famine. Bethlehem was a rich agricultural area (the city name means “House of Bread”), but times were tough, so he went to the pagan land of Moab.

i. To do so, he had to hike through the desolate Jericho pass, through the Judean wilderness near the Dead Sea, going across the Jordan River, into the land of Moab. This was a definite departure from the Promised Land of Israel, and a return towards the wilderness from which God had delivered Israel hundreds of years before. These were clearly steps in the wrong direction.
