Melting

2 Peter 3:10–12 NKJV
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?
As we finish the book of Revelation, we are reminded of the destiny of the pohysical universe
Chapter 21 begins following the 1000 year reign of Christ
Man has been judged, Sin and death put away and the new order is begining!
Revelation 20:11–14 NKJV
Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
Notice that there will be no escape on that day!
Do not deceive yourself into thinking that there will be any exemptions given on that day!
The believers in Christ who have hidden their lives in Him will not be judged for their sin! That was done on the cross of Jesus Christ and is freely given to those who desire to be right and repent of their sins
Colossians 3:3 NKJV
For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
Galatians 2:20 NKJV
I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
Ephesians 1:7 NKJV
In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace
The believer’s works however will be tested
1 Corinthians 3:12–14 NKJV
Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is. If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward.
So now A vision of the future
Revelation 21:1–5 NKJV
Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.”
Revelation 21:1 NKJV
Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea.
I fulfilment of Peter’s prophecy, the physical universe will be destroyed
A new city - Jerusalem the old has pasted away never to be remembered anymore!
Revelation 21:2 NKJV
Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
The place will be the very dwelling place of God!
No one knows exactly what life or existence will be like - we discussed this previously. It is clear however that it will be able to sustain the presence of God and our new bodies will be able to be there with Him!
Revelation 21:3 NKJV
And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God.
Emmanuel - Gos with us, a fulfilment of the prophecies of Isaiah
Revelation 21:4 NKJV
And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”
Sounds almost too good to be true! So we see only a glimpse of this in our own salvation experience
2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
Once again we see God confirming His word and promice Himself!
Revelation 21:5 NKJV
Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.”
Now the proclamation of the lamb
Revelation 21:6–7 NKJV
And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son.
Isaiah 55:1–2 NKJV
“Ho! Everyone who thirsts, Come to the waters; And you who have no money, Come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk Without money and without price. Why do you spend money for what is not bread, And your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, And let your soul delight itself in abundance.
John 7:37 NKJV
On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.
What a great offer! Man is thirsting for fulfilment and looking in all the wrong places!
Matthew 11:28–29 NKJV
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
The answer to the relentless pursuit of purpose and fulfilment can only be found in Christ
Matthew 25:33–36 NKJV
And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’
It isn’t rocket science! It is a natural outcome of your relationship with Him and His transformational power in your life!
Remember that the ultimate prize is Him!
Revelation 21:7 NKJV
He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son.
Warning!
Revelation 21:8 NKJV
But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
Now a description of the New Jerusalem
Revelation 21:9–16 NKJV
Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls filled with the seven last plagues came to me and talked with me, saying, “Come, I will show you the bride, the Lamb’s wife.” And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, having the glory of God. Her light was like a most precious stone, like a jasper stone, clear as crystal. Also she had a great and high wall with twelve gates, and twelve angels at the gates, and names written on them, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel: three gates on the east, three gates on the north, three gates on the south, and three gates on the west. Now the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. And he who talked with me had a gold reed to measure the city, its gates, and its wall. The city is laid out as a square; its length is as great as its breadth. And he measured the city with the reed: twelve thousand furlongs. Its length, breadth, and height are equal.
A representation of the OT and NT people! - the size we discussed prior about 1400 Miles cubed!
John now tells us more - there is a wall
Revelation 21:17 NKJV
Then he measured its wall: one hundred and forty-four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of an angel.
In the next verses he names the precious stones that make up this wall
About 2oo feet high and interestingly the street!
Revelation 21:18 NKJV
The construction of its wall was of jasper; and the city was pure gold, like clear glass.
I believe that God is telling us that that which man seeks to own and control is nothing but asphalt and bricks in heaven! It is because we have the real prize…Himself, no emptiness to fill!
We should learn that lesson now as we live in this place, He is the real prize and He has taken holds of us!
The conditions of the city
Revelation 21:22–27 NKJV
But I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light. And the nations of those who are saved shall walk in its light, and the kings of the earth bring their glory and honor into it. Its gates shall not be shut at all by day (there shall be no night there). And they shall bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it. But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
There will be no need for God to be hidden from man for He himself will be the light of life!
The Shekinah glory of the Lord shall be it’s light!
But again a warning to the wicked and unrepentant
Revelation 21:27 NKJV
But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
