The High Calling of Servanthood

Luke 14:7-14

Humility is a fundamental grace in the Christian life, but sadly it is lacking.

SIN OF SELF-SEEKING, vv. 7-10.

Prov. 25: 6 Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men: 7 For better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.

Let us remember that we believers are servants in the Lord’s work, not celebrities who are to be honored.

God knows our motives and heart.

1 Sam. 16:7 But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

God still humbles the proud and exalts the humble. James 4:6.

Luke 14, 11 For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Verse 11 sums up Jesus’ point.

Jesus Himself is the living example of humility. Philippians 2:5-8.

He humbled Himself, and God exalted Him.

SUMMONS TO SELFLESSNESS, vv. 12-14.

Matthew 5:46; 1 Corinthians 5:9-11.

Jesus was known as a Friend of sinners.

We must strive to maintain the unselfish attitude that Jesus had and share what we have with others.
