1.Friends helping a friend
Mark 2:3–4
Mark 2:3–4 (CSB)
They came to him bringing a paralytic, carried by four of them.
Since they were not able to bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him, and after digging through it, they lowered the mat on which the paralytic was lying.
some friends will spare no effort to save you
some will spare no effort to hinder your walk with God
choose your friends carefully!
1 Corinthians 15:33
33 Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good morals.”
What kind of friends do you have?
do they urge you to follow Jesus, or try to pull you away from God
What kind of friend are you?
do you encourage your friends to seek God, or do you stay quiet for fear of being mocked
2Corinthians 6:14
2.Jesus forgives his sin first
The Bible Knowledge Commentary (9:1–8)
Jesus was claiming divine authority, for only God can forgive sins
to prove His deity Jesus then cured the paralysis
The scribes—the theologians of the day—were thinking inwardly “That kind of talk is blasphemy; only God can forgive sins” (vv.
6, 7).
Of course, they were right.
On this point, their theology was correct.
It was in its application and its limitations that they erred.
Jesus knew what they were thinking (He still knows what every counselor/counselee thinks), and confronted them: “Why are you thinking this way?”
He asked.
Then He posed the question—which is easier—to forgive sins or to heal this sick man?
They didn’t answer.
Of course, they were thinking “It is easy to say ‘I forgive you,’ but how can we know that it is for real?”
In order to prove that He had the power to forgive sins, he told the sick man to get up and take his stretcher to his house (v.
11)—which the cripple proceeded to do.
Everyone in the crowd then glorified God.
3. some will cry out for physical healing while their soul is in despair
If thou bring thy sins to Jesus Christ, as thy malady and misery to be cured of, and delivered from, it is well; but to come with them, as thy darlings and delight, thinking still to retain them and receive him, is a gross mistake, a miserable delusion.
Jesus is far more concerned with your spiritual health
Mark 5:34 (CSB)
“Daughter,” he said to her, “your faith has saved you.
Go in peace and be healed from your affliction.”
Isaiah 53:4-5
are healed-if Jesus is your Lord and savior you are already healed
