It’s a time to remember, its a time of sadness. But it can be a time

The Birth of Jesus, through the eyes of Joseph.

Matthew 1:18–21 NKJV

18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. 19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. 20 But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21 And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”

Intro: Christmas is a great time of the year.

Elab on what it has become.....

Christmas is about the birth of Jesus.

Jesus the Son of God. God in the flesh.

The awaited Messiah.

Matthew 1:22–23 NKJV

22 So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: 23 “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”

Isaiah 7:14 NKJV

14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.

The time has come for the Messiah, Immanuel, the Son of God, Jesus.

When His birth would come, and it was time for the announcement, it would be Shepard that were watching over their flock that would be the first to see Him, and the first to share about Jesus.

God isn’t imp pressed with people of power and money, or fame. He using people who love Him.

That is why He chose Mary to be His mother. And to be to one who would raise Him.

Both Mary and Joseph belonged to the house of David

VS 1

“Betrothed” KJV espoused

It was equivalent to marriage, but did not live together.

Mary It is pregnant, conceived but the Holy Spirit.

With Mary being pregnant, and Joseph knowing it was not his child, and not know the whole story, had to hard decision to make.

If had commited adultery, she could have be stoned to death, or punished in some way, publicly humiliated.

Or he could have gone to her parents and divorced her. Elab

Joseph was angry, hurt, confused. He didn’t understand, he didn’t know what to do.

God uses an angel to reveal in a dream to Joseph two forms of good news.

“do be afraid” “Fear not”
