Mark 6:33-44

Theme: The Servant’s Ministry
Key verse: v.6
56 verses; 1323 words
Grade level: 4.7
1. Powerless Christians. vs.1-6
2. Powerful Christians. vs.7-13
3. Persecuted Christians. vs.14-29
4. Perceptive Christ. vs.30-32
5. Prepared Christ. Vs.33-44
Here are the different VIEWS as we look on watching our Lord Jesus Christ solve two problems.

I. The Multitude. Vs.33-36

What our Lord did. Vs.33-34
33 And the people saw them departing, and many knew him, and ran afoot thither out of all cities, and outwent them, and came together unto him.
ESV, NIV, NLT, HCSB incorrectly says “got there ahead of them”. This crowd hates church especially old fashioned Bible preaching churches. They try and diminish people coming together unto Christ. For years they have wanted to cut out services, Sunday schools, etc.
34 And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.
compassion - ἐσπλαγχνίσθη esplanchnisthē
aorist past tense verb in Greek.
This would indicate that compassion previously moved Jesus to go where these people are ahead of time. He came there knowing why and whom would be there and what the problem was with the ability to fix it.
sheep not having a shepherd -
ποιμένα poimena shepherd
noun, accusative, singular, masculine
1 Tim 3:1-2 “bishop” ἐπίσκοπος epískopos; gen. episkópou, masc. noun
The shepherd/bishop/pastor is a man in every sense of any language except liberalism.
he began to teach them many things -
διδάσκω didáskō; to know or teach. Teach, instruct by word of mouth (Matt. 28:15, 20; Luke 11:1; 12:12; Acts 15:1; 1 Cor. 11:14; Rev. 2:14).
What the apostles said. Vs.35-36
35 And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came unto him, and said, This is a desert place, and now the time is far passed:
The daylight was about over.
The market was closing down.
What was their action? Why they were going to tell Jesus what to do since He told them what to do (remember they are still in a huff about things).
36 Send them away, that they may go into the country round about, and into the villages, and buy themselves bread: for they have nothing to eat.
Send them away - I’m glad to report to you that when religious people would have sent me away that Jesus didn’t!
Thank you God for the roadblocks you put out!
Thank you Lord for Jimmy Ellis.
Thank you Lord for Joel Gardner.
Thank you Lord for Roger Hannon.
Thank you Lord for people here you used me as a roadblock.

I. The Multitude. Vs.33-36

II. The Misunderstanding. Vs.37-38

What Jesus saw. V.37
37 He answered and said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they say unto him, Shall we go and buy two hundred pennyworth of bread, and give them to eat?
Shall we go and buy - God does not want your money, your Isaac, your 10%; He wants YOU!
It is estimated that if 5,000 men were there, and that’s not count women and children (Matthew 14:21) that the crowd was closer to 20,000.
About that Shall we go and buy talk, did they have enough money?
What they saw. V.38
38 He saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? go and see. And when they knew, they say, Five, and two fishes.
Two words: “We have”
Two things: “loaves…fishes”

III. The Means. Vs.39-42

The direction He gave. Vs.38-39
The order Jesus commanded
39 And he commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon the green grass.
The obedience they gave. V.40
40 And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties.
The diet He gave.
Pray before eating. V.41
41 And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all.
Eat until full. V.42
42 And they did all eat, and were filled.
We have all discovered by example or practice that this is the best way.

III. The Means. Vs.39-42

IV. The Message. Vs.43-44

His message to His men. V.43
43 And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments, and of the fishes.
The Lord has a reminder set.
There were twelve baskets: one for each doubter.
His message to the multitude. V.44
44 And they that did eat of the loaves were about five thousand men.
Jesus fed them all.
Jesus can feed you!
Conclusion:
He solved their problem.
He can solve yours.
