Devoted for Destruction.

Joshua 7:10–13 NET
10 The Lord responded to Joshua, “Get up! Why are you lying there face down? 11 Israel has sinned; they have violated my covenantal commandment! They have taken some of the riches; they have stolen them and deceitfully put them among their own possessions. 12 The Israelites are unable to stand before their enemies; they retreat because they have become subject to annihilation. I will no longer be with you, unless you destroy what has contaminated you. 13 Get up! Ritually consecrate the people and tell them this: ‘Ritually consecrate yourselves for tomorrow, because the Lord God of Israel says, “You are contaminated, O Israel! You will not be able to stand before your enemies until you remove what is contaminating you.”
Joshua 7:10–12 GW
10 The Lord said to Joshua, “Get up! What are you doing bowing on the ground? 11 Israel has sinned. They have ignored the requirementsthat I have placed on them. They have taken what I claimed for myself and put it among their own goods. They have not only stolen, but they have also lied. 12 “The people of Israel will not be able to defend themselves against their enemies. They will run away from their enemies because the people of Israel are now claimed for destruction. I will not be with you anymore unless you destroy what I have claimed for myself.
Joshua 7:10–13 NLT
10 But the Lord said to Joshua, “Get up! Why are you lying on your face like this? 11 Israel has sinned and broken my covenant! They have stolen some of the things that I commanded must be set apart for me. And they have not only stolen them but have lied about it and hidden the things among their own belongings. 12 That is why the Israelites are running from their enemies in defeat. For now Israel itself has been set apart for destruction. I will not remain with you any longer unless you destroy the things among you that were set apart for destruction. 13 “Get up! Command the people to purify themselves in preparation for tomorrow. For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: Hidden among you, O Israel, are things set apart for the Lord. You will never defeat your enemies until you remove these things from among you.
This is second Generation Isreal, the last generation had died and was not able to see Gods promise fulfilled and this brand new generation is off to a great start.. The first victory took a march and a shout and the walls came down. God tells them because this is your first victory all the gold & silver belongs to me and will go into my treasury.
But Achan didn’t believe God to be a man that shalt not lie.. And he took some stuff and hid it in his tent.
That brings us to Chapter 7, The Children of Isreal are going after a small enemy compared to Jericho. It wouldn’t take as many people to defeat this enemy. But one problem out of all the obedient people in the crew.. There is always one that doesn’t see it they way God wants it..
Elbow your neighbor and ask them. (your not the achan of the crew are you)
after wandering for 40 years in the desert waiting for a disobedient generation to die off, Somehow they was still able to bring one that had the same type of spirit that God Killed off.
And One Bad Apple Can Spoil the entire… you know the rest..
Lets explore this Word that is used in this text to determine if we might want to look out for it in Our Lives
To be honest in my time of serving God I found myself loosing to an enemy that was much smaller that the last enemy I defeated.
I’d like to call this the Buster Douglas experience..
Joshua 6:17 AV
17 And the city shall be accursed, even it, and all that are therein, to the LORD: only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent.
Joshua 6:18–19 AV
18 And ye, in any wise keep yourselves from the accursed thing, lest ye make yourselves accursed, when ye take of the accursed thing, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it. 19 But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are consecrated unto the LORD: they shall come into the treasury of the LORD.
Accursed:
Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary (Accursed)
ACCURSED Translation of Hebrew cherem, a technical term in warfare for items captured from the enemy and devoted to God.
“become the Lord’s permanent property”
Lev. 27:21 . 21 But the field, when it goeth out in the jubile, shall be holy unto the LORD, as a field devoted; the possession thereof shall be the priest’s
“put a curse on … destroyed” (Judg. 1:17). REB uses “dedicated” (Lev. 27:21); “devoted” (Lev. 27:28–29); “utterly destroy” (Num. 21:2); “put to death under solemn ban” (Deut. 2:34); “exterminate” (Deut. 7:2); “destroyed” (Josh. 2:10); “put to death” (Judg. 21:11).
NRSV consistently uses “devoted” and “utterly destroyed” to translate cherem, while NASB uses “set apart” and “utterly destroy.” NIV uses “devoted,” “totally destroyed,” “completely destroyed.
Israel’s neighbors practiced devoting battle spoils to a god also, as 2 Kings 19:11 shows. “Accursed” appears in KJV for cherem only in Joshua and in 1 Chron. 2:7. In Deut. 21:23 and Isa. 65:20 KJV uses “accursed” to translate another Hebrew root, qalal, “to make light of, curse.”
Paul used a technical Greek term, anathema, to call for persons to be put under a holy ban or be accursed
Rom. 9:3 For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:
1 Cor. 12:3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.
Gal. 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
1 Cor. 16:22 If anyone does not love the Lord [does not have a friendly affection for Him and is not kindly disposed toward Him], he shall be accursed! Our Lord will come! (Maranatha!)
2. To Be accursed means it belongs to God! or its “become the Lord’s permanent property”
The Law Of First Mention:
The law (or principle or rule) of first mention is a guideline that some people use for studying Scripture. The law of first mention says that, to understand a particular word or doctrine, we must find the first place in Scripture that word or doctrine is revealed and study that passage. The reasoning is that the Bible’s first mention of a concept is the simplest and clearest presentation; doctrines are then more fully developed on that foundation. So, to fully understand an important and complex theological concept, Bible students are advised to start with its “first mention.”

15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: 17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

When they grew up, Abel became a shepherd, while Cain cultivated the ground. 3 When it was time for the harvest, Cain presented some of his crops as a gift to the LORD. 4 Abel also brought a gift—the best portions of the firstborn lambs from his flock. The LORD accepted Abel and his gift, 5 but he did not accept Cain and his gift. This made Cain very angry, and he looked dejected.

6 “Why are you so angry?” the LORD asked Cain. “Why do you look so dejected? 7 You will be accepted if you do what is right. But if you refuse to do what is right, then watch out! Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it and be its master.”

8 One day Cain suggested to his brother, “Let’s go out into the fields.”* And while they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother, Abel, and killed him

What we see In the Beginning,
God makes it clear what he has given man and what belongs to him
God Makes it clear that he wants his first and he wants the best
God also make its clear that not honoring what he is asking results in Death..
3.) Let me ask you this question?
Since you’ve been a Christian have you ever felt like you should be further,
Have you ever felt like this thing thats fighting you is too small to be kicking your butt like this
Have you ever felt unfulfilled in your relationships, Job, where you live, etc
Have you ever blamed people places & things for why your like this?
It is very possible you’ve been sitting on something that belongs to God..
Capital One Credit card ask this question: Whats in Your wallet?
I’m asking whats in your Tent?
Genesis 31:31–35 GW
31 Jacob answered Laban, “I left because I was afraid. I thought you would take your daughters away from me by force. 32 If you find your gods, the one who has them will not be allowed to live. In the presence of our relatives, search as much as you want through what I have, and take what is yours.” (Jacob didn’t know that Rachel had stolen the gods.) 33 So Laban went into Jacob’s tent, into Leah’s tent, and into the tent of the two slaves. But he found nothing. He came out of Leah’s tent and went into Rachel’s tent. 34 Rachel had taken the idols and had put them in her camel’s saddle-bag and was sitting on them. Laban rummaged through the whole tent but found nothing. 35 Rachel said to her father, “Don’t be angry, Father, but I can’t get up to greet you; I’m having my period.” So even though Laban had made a thorough search, he didn’t find the idols.
Genesis 35:16–19 AV
16 And they journeyed from Bethel; and there was but a little way to come to Ephrath: and Rachel travailed, and she had hard labour. 17 And it came to pass, when she was in hard labour, that the midwife said unto her, Fear not; thou shalt have this son also. 18 And it came to pass, as her soul was in departing, (for she died) that she called his name Benoni: but his father called him Benjamin. 19 And Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Bethlehem.
God Was bringing Jacob back to his father’s family and his wife carried idols with her and sat on them while she was pregnant with Benjamin.
Having the wrong person in your camp can cause a spiritual catastrophe
You Know The Tithe belongs to God, but does your wife? is she sitting on idols?
You Know Sunday belongs to God But does your husband Do? Is he sitting on the Idol of football or basketball? Or Work?
Whats In Your Tent that belongs to God?
Achan had a Robe, a wedge of gold and some sheckels of Silver.. What was he going to do with that?
And Everyone Suffered because of this!
God tells Joshua to get up off that floor and handle your house hold.

10 And the LORD said unto Joshua, Get thee up; wherefore liest thou thus upon thy face? 11 Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have put it even among their own stuff

Joshua 7:19–25 AMP
19 And Joshua said to Achan, My son, give glory to the Lord, the God of Israel, and make confession to Him. And tell me now what you have done; do not hide it from me. 20 And Achan answered Joshua, In truth, I have sinned against the Lord, the God of Israel, and this have I done: 21 When I saw among the spoils an attractive mantle from Shinar and two hundred shekels of silver and a bar of gold weighing fifty shekels, I coveted them and took them. Behold, they are hidden in the earth inside my tent, with the silver underneath. 22 So Joshua sent messengers, who ran to the tent, and behold, the spoil was hidden in his tent, with the silver underneath. 23 And they took them from the tent and brought them to Joshua and all the Israelites and laid them out before the Lord. 24 And Joshua and all Israel with him took Achan son of Zerah, and the silver, the garment, the wedge of gold, his sons, his daughters, his oxen, his donkeys, his sheep, his tent, and all that he had; and they brought them to the Valley of Achor. 25 And Joshua said, Why have you brought trouble on us? The Lord will trouble you this day. And all Israel stoned him and those with him with stones, and afterward burned their bodies with fire.
Now I Know i got at lease 3 theologians saying yea pastor but this is old testament. You are right but…
Acts 5:1–11 TPT
1 Now, a man named Ananias and his wife, Sapphira, likewise sold their farm. 2 They conspired to secretly keep back for themselves a portion of the proceeds. So when Ananias brought the money to the apostles, it was only a portion of the entire sale. 3 God revealed their secret to Peter, so he said to him, “Ananias, why did you let Satan fill your heart and make you think you could lie to the Holy Spirit? You only pretended to give it all, yet you hid back part of the proceeds from the sale of your property to keep for yourselves. 4 Before you sold it, wasn’t it yours to sell or to keep? And after you sold it, wasn’t the money entirely at your disposal? How could you plot such a thing in your heart? You haven’t lied to people; you’ve lied to God!” 5 The moment Ananias heard those words, he fell over dead. Everyone was terrified when they heard what had happened. 6 Some young men came in and removed the body and buried him. 7 Three hours later, his wife came into the room, with no clue what had happened to her husband. 8 Peter said to her, “Tell me, were the two of you paid this amount for the sale of your land?” Sapphira said, “Yes, that’s how much it was.” 9 Peter told her, “Why have you agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? I hear the footsteps of those who buried your husband at the door—they’re coming here to bury you too!” 10 At that moment she dropped dead at Peter’s feet. When the young men came in, she was already dead, so they carried her out and buried her next to her husband. 11 The entire church was seized with a powerful sense of the fear of God, which came over all who heard what had happened.
So we see what has been set apart for Gods use and Glory God is willing to Kill for..
Isaiah 43: 4 Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life. 5 Fear not: for I am with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west; 6 I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth; 7 Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.
I am not sure if you come to the conclusion yet that Gods hand is on your life, and no matter what you want to do if God ain't in it!! It ain't going to work..
Why because you’ve been set apart
