In your spiritual life, what do you wrestle with most?
What frustrates you most about your lack of victory over that struggle?
The more that we focus on our personal victory over God’s, the more we weaken the victory of God through Jesus Christ that has already been given to us.
Our victory over sin was never meant to be a reflection of our Victory, it was meant to be a reflection of God’s victory through Christ.
Whose victory do you seek, yours or God’s?
Psalm 105:1-4 “Oh give thanks to the Lord, call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples.
Sing to Him, sing praises to Him; Speak of all His wonders.
Glory in His holy name; Let the heart of those who seek the Lord be glad.
Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face continually.”
When it comes to personal victory over sin, Jerry Bridges wrote, “Our first problem is that our attitude toward sin is more self-centered than God-centered.”[1]
[1] Jerry Bridges, The Pursuit of Holiness (Colorado Springs, Colorado: NavPress, 2016), 4.
After explaining what he meant, Jerry Bridges concluded, “God wants us to walk in obedience—not victory…victory is [just the] by-product of obedience.”

Do you want victory to be the character of your Christian life, focus on obedience and your desire to please God instead of your personal victory.
Doing so puts the emphasis where it belongs and keeps God the priority in our lives.
Doing so peals back the darkness of this sin cursed world and shines God light on and through us to a world that is just feeling its way through the darkness of life.
