Breaking of Generational Curses
God cursed the earth (Genesis 3:17-19)
How I was led to this truth
Define blessings and curses—emphasize continuation from one generation to
another—families as well as individuals.
Blessing and cursing are both key concepts in Scripture.
Biblical writers and characters wish or pray that good, beneficial and desirable things, or bad, disadvantageous and undesirable things, will happen to others.
In some instances the blessing or curse is understood to be in itself a powerful and effective mechanism for ensuring that such good or bad things will happen to others.
The words of blessing and cursing are thought to have inherent, autonomous power, so that once spoken they cannot be recalled, and unless some greater power is invoked to combat them the good or bad that they have called for is bound to happen
Examples of blessings
From God (note cause)
From man on behalf of God
The same principles apply to curses
The word “curse” occurs nearly 200 times in Scripture
There is always a cause for a curse
Every Human being is born under curse
FUTILITY Frustration, vexation, uselessness, and meaninglessness
evil, calamity, injustice, sin, deception, false, unprincipled, vain, vanity, idol, worthless,
John Piper expands it to say, “…it is referring to an empty, meaningless, unprofitable way of living that ends with destruction.
It says that these ‘futile ways’ are connected with our ancestors.”
And what is the result?
“There is a sense of fatalism that we are bound to live with the curse or the wounds from our ancestry.
The future seems futile and void of happiness.”
