Soloman: A Brief Biography
King Solomon rained during the golden age of Israel, a time of national and economic prosperity.
As Solomon began his kingship, he was visited by the Lord in a dream while and Gideon to make a sacrifice.
God tells him he may have anything he desires and the new king asks for one thing, wisdom.
(I Kings 3:6 - 9) God was so pleased with Solomon’s request, he promised to give Solomon everything that anyone could’ve requested.
He, like his father David, desire to govern God’s people with "an understanding heart”.
During Solomons reign, he expanded the boundaries of Israel, achieved economic success, constructed a magnificent palace, built the first temple in Jerusalem, and placed the ark of the covenant in the most holy room of the temple.
Solomons wisdom is recorded in the book of Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, and even to psalms 72, and 127.
I Kings 4:32 says that by the end of his life Solomon had spoken over 3000 proverbs and written 1005 songs!
But why is advice is often easier given and taken.
King Solomon married over 700 foreign wives and had 300 concubines.
What a marriage is like this in an ancient world were a way of forming political and economic alliances between nations.
Solomon may have seen his many marriages as a means to strengthen his kingdom, but in the end, this proved to be a foolish path to follow, as it weakened his relationship with God.
As one of his proverbs says,
In his old age, Solomon set up numerous palaces of worship for the gods of his many wives and his heart turned toward these idols.
No longer was his heart “perfect with the Lord his God,…”
As Moses had said centuries earlier and Jesus would say centuries later the greatest commandment is to "love the Lord thy God with all...".
During most of Solomon's reign, Israel was united and prosperous.
Upon Solomon step, however, Solomon left behind a fragile kingdom on the verge of breaking apart.

Wisdom teaches us how to gain lasting and true happiness.
Wisdom teaches us to gain true riches and honor.
Wisdom teaches us how to discern those who have our well-being in mind.
Wisdom teaches us how to delight those who have a genuine concern for our well-being.
