Today's Text: “ No more Revenge!”
Father in heaven, as I come to your throne today, I come as a vessel broken imperfect in every way, but you are perfect.
This bible will not pass away, your judgments are right and true.
your truth is not determined by my ability to walk in it.
as we The truth in your words this morning we ask that you combat the fear that you will not perfect us.
Help us not to trust our flesh, and to trust in the power of the spirit.
in Jesus name.

Pastoral Confession:
The scripture calls me to teach the whole counsel of God’s word.
the bible does not allow me to skip the areas where i have a personal struggle.
this is just one of the many burdens that pastors have to carry in the feeding of the flock of our Lord.
our own sin nature, our flaws.
I would covet your prayers as we embark on this Part of the scriptures today.
1. Keep your own eyes, and don’t ask anyone else for theirs.
Here we go again with the familiar statement, you have heard it said, but I tell you…
there is a truth here that I did not get until this week
the key word to the understanding is the word resist ἀντιστῆναι6.
anthistēmi. it means not to go to court.
this comes directly from the old testament law:
this is not to be taken care of on an individual level, rather, a victim should take their case to court.
This was no doubt done to keep vigilante ‘justice’ is often not justice at all.
the punishment must fit the crime.
This is why the Greek words means don’t take your case to court.
this is fir the sake of the gospel.
This whole issue is about grace.
personal conflict.
Personal insult.
Personal grace.
2. Givers give not out of abundance, rather, they give because they know their source is not their stuff.
As Christians we know that our provision comes not from the work that He has given us to do.
(although He has given us the work and called us to do that work in a spirit of excellence.
The work we are given is not our source, God is source.
So when the Jesus says don’t make some one sue you for your coat, that coat can also be the persons bed spread because clothes took so long to make it was a big deal to give them up.
if he wants your coat give him your shirt as well.
why?
Going the second mile is ‘killing them with kindness and worshiping the Lord in the process.
A Roman solider could compel you as a matter of being an occupying force to carry his load a mile.
Jewish sentiment was to resent this mandatory service.
yet Jesus said, if they want you to go one mile, go two.
you are not broken you are built strong and in the image of the true God .
Let the grace of that God empower you to do more than they thought by a full measure.
this is a decoration of praise!
3. when its your power to do so be generous.
be captain help a brother out.
(if your a man)
QUEEN save a sister ( if you are a woman of God.)
the core of the second part of this passage ( the giving part is all about empowerment.)
Struggles don’t last always.
we should be willing to help in the struggle.
the more we have been helped the more you should be willing to help others as you where helped.
