2. Will we fall short in our giving to God as well?

Body:

1. Does God Care How We Give?

A. The Scripture gives orders as to how we should give that must be followed.

1 Corinthians 16:1 (NKJV)
1 Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given orders to the churches of Galatia, so you must do also:

1. The Greek word is diatassō which means to give orders to or to command.

A. It is the same word used in Matthew 11:1 by Jesus when talking to the twelve.

Matthew 11:1 NKJV
1 Now it came to pass, when Jesus finished commanding His twelve disciples, that He departed from there to teach and to preach in their cities.

2. The orders given by Paul instruct us as to how God desires us to give.

1 Corinthians 16:2 NKJV
2 On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections when I come.

A. On the first day of the week.

B. Lay something aside as you prosper.

2 Corinthians 9:6–7 NKJV
6 But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.

C. Do not give sparingly.

D. Give bountifully.

E. Purpose your giving in your heart.

1. We purpose our giving for other things.
A. Car payment
B. House payment or rent
C. Cable T.V. or Satellite

F. Do not give grudgingly or of necessity.

G. Be a cheerful giver.

2. Will We Fall Short In Our Giving To God?

A. Israel robbed God because they were unwilling to give as God commanded or ordered.

Malachi 3:8–9 NKJV
8 “Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say, ‘In what way have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings. 9 You are cursed with a curse, For you have robbed Me, Even this whole nation.

1. We rob God when we are unwilling to give as He has commanded or ordered.

2 Corinthians 9:6–8 NKJV
6 But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.

A. If we do not give on the first day of the week we rob God.

B. If we do not lay something aside as we have been prospered we rob God.

C. If we give sparingly and not bountifully we rob God.

D. If we do not purpose our giving in our hearts we rob God.

E. If we do not give cheerfully we rob God.

B. Should our giving be better than Israel’s because God gave us better than He gave Israel?

Hebrews 11:36–40 NKJV
36 Still others had trial of mockings and scourgings, yes, and of chains and imprisonment. 37 They were stoned, they were sawn in two, were tempted, were slain with the sword. They wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, tormented— 38 of whom the world was not worthy. They wandered in deserts and mountains, in dens and caves of the earth. 39 And all these, having obtained a good testimony through faith, did not receive the promise, 40 God having provided something better for us, that they should not be made perfect apart from us.

1. God gave us a better Savior.

Hebrews 1:1–4 NKJV
1 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; 3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, 4 having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.

2. God gave us a better hope.

Hebrews 7:18–19 NKJV
18 For on the one hand there is an annulling of the former commandment because of its weakness and unprofitableness, 19 for the law made nothing perfect; on the other hand, there is the bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God.

3. God gave us a better covenant.

Hebrews 7:22 NKJV
22 by so much more Jesus has become a surety of a better covenant.

4. God gave us better promises.

Hebrews 8:6 NKJV
6 But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.

5. God gave us a better sacrifice.

Hebrews 9:23 NKJV
23 Therefore it was necessary that the copies of the things in the heavens should be purified with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.

6. God gave us a better country.

Hebrews 11:16 NKJV
16 But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.

C. If God required a lot from Israel how much more will He require of us having given us much better...

1. Savior

2. Hope

3. Covenant

4. Promises

5. Sacrifice

6. Country (Promise Land)

Conclusion:

1. God does care how we give.

A. Have we robbed God?
