This Week’s Theme: Praise God for His Salvation
Memory Verse: Psalm 27:1 “1 The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?”
This Week’s Word is Salvation: Salvation is a spiritual deliverance which includes freed by God through Christ from the penalty of sin, is presently being freed from the power of sin, and will be freed from the presence of sin. God redeems, rescues, regenerate, and reconciles sinners.
Essence of the Text in a Sentence: In regards to the resurrection, Paul is stressing to the Corinthian believers the victory gained through Christ and their response.
Sermon Objective: I want those in attendance to appreciate what has been afforded to those in Christ and give credit where credit is due.
Sermon Text: 1 Corinthians 15:57-58
1 Corinthians 15:57–58 NKJV
57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
INTRODUCTION: Moses and the children of Israel responded with a song after crossing the Red Sea
Exodus 15:1-20 “1 Then Moses and the children of Israel sang this song to the Lord, and spoke, saying: “I will sing to the Lord, For He has triumphed gloriously! The horse and its rider He has thrown into the sea! 2 The Lord is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation; He is my God, and I will praise Him; My father’s God, and I will exalt Him. 3 The Lord is a man of war; The Lord is His name. 4 Pharaoh’s chariots and his army He has cast into the sea; His chosen captains also are drowned in the Red Sea. 5 The depths have covered them; They sank to the bottom like a stone. 6 “Your right hand, O Lord, has become glorious in power; Your right hand, O Lord, has dashed the enemy in pieces. 7 And in the greatness of Your excellence You have overthrown those who rose against You; You sent forth Your wrath; It consumed them like stubble. 8 And with the blast of Your nostrils The waters were gathered together; The floods stood upright like a heap; The depths congealed in the heart of the sea. 9 The…”
TRANSITION:
Sermon Proposition: Saints respond to the victory given

I. WHEN YOU KNOW TRUTH

1 Corinthians 15:57 NKJV
57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
What victory? Through the finished work of Christ, His life, His death, the burial, and resurrection of Christ.

Basis of Faith

1 Corinthians 15:14–15 NKJV
And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty. Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up—if in fact the dead do not rise.
See also Ac 3:15; 4:33; 17:18; 24:21; Ro 10:9; 2Ti 2:8; Heb 6:1-2

Basis of Believers’ Justification

Romans 4:25 NKJV
who was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification.
Romans 8:34 NKJV
Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.

Basis of Christian Hope

1 Corinthians 15:19 NKJV
If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.
Acts 24:15 NKJV
I have hope in God, which they themselves also accept, that there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and the unjust.

Basis of Believers’ Resurrection

1 Corinthians 15:20–23 NKJV
20 But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. 23 But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming.
The Law of Moses (Ex 23:16) provided for an offering of the firstfruits of crops to God. The firstfruits were the guarantee of the full harvest to come. The NT sees the resurrection of Jesus Christ as the firstfruits of the full ingathering of all God’s people when Jesus Christ comes again. See also Jn 14:19; Ac 26:23; Ro 8:11
APPLICATION:
Can you explain what Christ has done and why it was important?
List the Scriptures that speak of what Christ has done and why it is important.
Do you need to repent (turn from) of your sin of neglecting to grow in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior?
Actions speak louder than words, name the Christians you will tell your sins to and those who you will look to for accountability

II. WHEN YOU KNOW THE TRADITION

1 Corinthians 15:57 NKJV
57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Father Sent the Son

John 3:16 NKJV
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

The Father Shows the Son

John 5:19–20 NKJV
19 Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner. 20 For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel.

The Father Speaks through the Son

John 8:28 NKJV
28 Then Jesus said to them, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things.

The Father Executes Sentencing through the Son

John 5:30 NKJV
30 I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me.

The Father Saves through the Son

John 6:44 NKJV
44 No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day.

Our Position

Romans 5:1 NKJV
1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

Our Praise

Romans 1:8 NKJV
8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.
Romans 7:25 NKJV
25 I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.
Romans 5:1 NKJV
1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
EXPLANATION:
ILLUSTRATION:
APPLICATION:
Has your sin hindered the effectiveness of the church?
Will you right now confess your sins to the LORD?
Will you repent (turn from) of your sins today?
Actions speak louder than words, name the Christians you will tell your sins to and those who you will look to for accountability

III. YOU WILL TESTIFY

God is the source of Victory

2 Corinthians 2:14 NKJV
14 Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.

15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
Romans 7:24–25 NKJV
24 O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? 25 I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.

Victory Over Temptation

1 Corinthians 10:13 NKJV
13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

Victory Over the World

John 16:33 NKJV
33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

Victory Over the Devil

Hebrews 2:14 NKJV
14 Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,
1 Corinthians 15:54–56 NKJV
54 So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” 55 “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law.
Are you experiences a life of victory? Why not?
Will you thank God for what He has done through Christ?
How will you thank God?
CONCLUSION: Moses and David wrote and sung a song to the LORD
What about you will you sing? I was sinking deep in sin
Amazing Grace how sweet the sound
