Making A Difference Article
“Noted historian Thomas C. Reeves, who for many years was a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, wrote: “Christianity in modern America is, in large part, safe.
It tends to be easy, upbeat, convenient, and compatible.
It does not require self-sacrifice, discipline, humility, an otherworldly outlook, a zeal for souls, a fear as well as love of God.”
God did not save us solely so that we could go to Heaven.
He calls and commands us to have an impact here on Earth as well.
When we trade the shame of the cross of Christ for the plaudits and acceptance of men, we have forfeited the power to shake the world.
Far better to be despised and even persecuted than to live a life without making a difference for God.”
Being a disciple for Jesus Christ is more than saying a little prayer, attending bible studies, and having good character and values.
Being a disciple is a commitment to Jesus Christ, but what does this mean?
What does a disciple “do’? and what should I expect?
We will be answering all those questions tonight.
Open up your bible to Matthew 10:1-25 as we see and hear the Word of God.
(Prayer)
Being A Disciple:
Disciple: “Someone who follows another person or another way of life and who submits himself to the teaching of that leader or way.
Disciple = Student
“We are all students to something or someone.”
“When you say you are a disciple of Jesus Christ, you are stating that you will submit to His teachings and the way He calls us to live.”
“Do you desire/have a hunger to know Jesus and His Word?”
(Example: What are you willing to give up?)
The Lord Gives Us Power and Authority:
Matthew 10:1 (CSB)
Summoning his twelve disciples, he gave them authority over unclean spirits, to drive them out and to heal every disease and sickness.
“As a disciple, power and authority comes from Jesus Christ, through the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
Why do we need His power?
1.) Christ strengthen’s our inner being:
2.) Christ’s Power Enables Us To Be Servants of the Gospel:
3.) Christ’s Power Enables to Endure Suffering:
4.) In Our Weakness, Christ’s Strengthens Us:
We Are To Proclaim The Kingdom of God
Matthew 10:7 (CSB)
As you go, proclaim, ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’
“How we live alone won’t lead people to Christ.”
Persecution Will Happen:
Persecution: to harass or punish in a manner designed to injure, grieve, or afflict specifically : to cause to suffer because of belief.
Also, to annoy with persistent or urgent approaches.
