Introduction: As Christians, one of our greatest challenges will be to stand upon our faith during times of cultural persecution. Peter and John demonstrate how believers can hold firm to their faith, despite concerted cultural persecution that seeks to silence their witness. Only 2.4 Billion of the world’s 7.8 Billion people profess to be Christians. In the United States, the number of professing Christians has declined from 78% in 2007 to 63% in 2019. However, 7 out of 10 people said they would be willing to hear a Gospel presentation from a friend, neighbor or relative. Unfortunately, today, many professing Christians (36%) do not see it as their responsibility to share their faith.”

Cultural Conflicts

Conflict with the culture comes even when we do the right thing. (4:2) - “2 because they were provoked that they were teaching the people and proclaiming in the person of Jesus the resurrection from the dead.”
Conflict with culture can still produce change. (4:3-4) - “3 So they seized them and put them in custody until the next day, since it was already evening. 4 But many of those who heard the message believed, and the number of the men came to about 5,000.”
5 The next day, their rulers, elders, and scribes assembled in Jerusalem 6 with Annas the high priest, Caiaphas, John and Alexander, and all the members of the high-priestly family. 7 After they had Peter and John stand before them, they asked the question: "By what power or in what name have you done this?"
